We are Words and Whiskey, your new intoxicating weekly book club. This project began during the doldrums of 2020 as a way for Krossland and PJ to explore fiction that his co-host knew he'd enjoy. We also hope it encourages others to join in, follow along, and probably make fun of our opinions too. We also adore the craft of alcohol, and craft alcohol. Alcohol craft? We hope you enjoy stepping into... more

  • Quality Banter, Book Talk & Booze

It has been a joy to listen along for in-depth breakdowns of some amazing book series. While listening it’s like you are dropped down in a book discussion with friends.

The Jokes and Cocktails are the perfect cherry on top of an already thoroughly enjoyable show.

  • Great Podcast

This show is making me read these books so fast. Already finished the first two and keep grinding away every knight. Started with The Blade Itself and trying to get caught up but not sure if I will. I really enjoy their insight and the recipes on the website. Keep up the great work.

  • Great for a Red Rising review!

Got to the fifth book of the Red Rising series (Dark Age) and was so desperate to discuss, I decided to find a matching podcast so I could at the very least listen to others talking about it!

Started at your first episode — which made for a lovely review of the whole series. Thank you for your company as I now read through Lightbringer! 😀

  • Incredible read along podcast

As they mentioned at the end of the ‘Dark Age’ reread somehow Kross never spoiled anything for PJ. A perfect companion podcast I started with the Red Rising series and will even check out other books they read as I love their conversations and insight.

    Love the drink recommendations too

Just a great all around podcast

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Empire of Silence | Episode 1 | Hadrian - The Ugliness of the World
Q: How are you feeling about the beginning of this book?
I'm loving the vibe of this. I will say that it is a slower start, but I appreciate a lot of the introspective writing style.
Best Served Cold | Part VII: Talins | Thus the Whirligig... - Happy Endings
Q: Do you think he truly deserves the accolades that he's being given now?
I tend to believe his rap sheet as far as who he's successfully murdered goes. I think he deserves the term master poisoner and maybe deserves all of these accolades, but there's a little bit of exaggeration in his portfolio.
Best Served Cold | Part VII: Talins | Thus the Whirligig... - Happy Endings
Q: How do you feel about the cliffhanger?
Fucking cliffhanger, man. Oh, that was mean.
Episode 200 - Variety Hour(s)!
Q: What would it be like if you had to battle characters from the series you've covered?
Vin from Mistborn would likely come out on top against characters from other series due to her unique abilities and combat skills.
Episode 200 - Variety Hour(s)!
Q: What series do you think would be a good pick for Mike Flanagan's aesthetic?
I think Mike Flanagan would do a great job with Era 1 of Mistborn because of its nuanced storytelling and deep character explorations.
