  • Lazy Podcasting

I used to really enjoy this podcast and would recommend it to others constantly. I am not sure what has changed but most of the content posted are reuploads with little to no additional commentary.

It’s just the lazy way to say- we got nothing so listen to this rerun and we’ll add a not important at all fact to the end and call it new! Come on! You’re so much better than this. Stop calling it in to the pod that MADE you while promoting other projects. The pod is slipping. Pay more attention to it like you used to!

  • Love these ladies!

My bachelors degree was in criminal justice, but I ended up getting my mastered in applied behavior analysis, so I don’t have much contact with the crime world anymore and I really miss it. Amy, don’t listen to the haters, your voice and accent are adorable and I love listening to you talk things, however the hell you want to as long as you’re not being ignorant. Pronunciation is tough! You guys do such a great job that is the least of our concerns. I also like the banter between you guys. Somet... more

  • Used to be sharper

I loved this podcast when it started and appreciated the expertise and discussion that these criminology professors brought to the table. It’s also nice that they are so eager to hear from their fans. Two pieces of feedback, though: one is that “reconsidered” episodes aren’t necessary. If you want to review information from past episodes, you could tie all that up in a couple exclusive episodes and provide updates, but it feels a bit lazy just to repurpose old material. Second is that episodes d... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Reconsidered: Nikki Whitehead
Q: Other than strain theory, what are the most common theories contributing to repeat offenders and serial offenders starting or continuing their criminal careers?
Meghan explains that for serial offenders, biological factors such as traumatic brain injury often interact with childhood trauma, while strain and other social-psychological theories describe how cumulative antisocial traits and poor coping mechanisms emerge over time.
Reconsidered: Recy Taylor
Q: My question is, have either of you worked with forensic nurses or victims of rape or violence? And what advice do you have regarding working with this population?
They acknowledged it's emotionally taxing work, emphasized the need for the right disposition and coping outlets, and discussed how forensic nurses collect evidence and may testify in trials.
Kristin Rossum
Q: Are most crimes actually planned or do they happen in the moment?
The hosts suggest a balanced view, noting that crimes range from premeditated plans to opportunistic acts, with many cases likely involving a mix of planning and opportunity.
Maya Moore
Q: What were the key evidentiary issues that contributed to Jonathan Irons' wrongful conviction?
Suppressed fingerprint evidence, a doctored fingerprint report, and eyewitness identifications without proper cautionary instructions, along with a Brady violation.
Maya Moore
Q: What is the most powerful actor in the courtroom according to the hosts, and why?
They argue that prosecutors hold more power than judges because they decide charges, bail, plea deals, and sentencing recommendations, shaping outcomes long before trial.
