  • Excellent information

Wim usually provides excellent information to listeners looking for training advice. I learn a lot from his podcast episodes.

Every so often he detours into talking politics a bit to much - he should avoid that since his opinions are a dime a dozen. The reason I mention this is because he often talks about wanting to avoid talking politics but then does anyway.

Wim has however inspired me to become a more thorough student of violence.

WDP 170 - Reimagining Women's Self-Defense - Tèja VanWicklen
Q: Could you give a brief overview of what readers might expect in the book and what gaps it aims to fill in martial arts for women?
The book is a practical reference for instructors; it argues that most traditional arts were designed by men for male bodies or military contexts, and highlights the gaps in addressing women's real-life self-protection needs, emphasizing a timeline-based framework and a protective-offense approach tailored to women's bodies and family situations.
WDP161 - Dr. Lucius Pomerantz
Q: What are some best practices for BJJ and MMA practitioners?
Tap early, tap often, and have a fundamental understanding of techniques, especially those that can lead to injury like heel hooks.
WDP161 - Dr. Lucius Pomerantz
Q: What are the biggest mistakes you see martial artists, combat sport athletes and practitioners do?
The biggest thing anyone can do is give their bodies a chance to recover. Injuries should be managed properly to avoid long-term issues and not brushed aside.
WDP161 - Dr. Lucius Pomerantz
Q: Did you see that there's like a change that the fighters and coaches are being more conscious of?
Yes, there's an awareness about brain trauma, and many fighters are now more careful during training, potentially sparring less and giving their bodies time to recover.
