Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#179: Replacements For Eagle Rare Part 2
Q: What is the perfect palette condition for a whiskey tasting?
It's best to be well hydrated and not have eaten anything too intense, avoiding spicy food for optimum tasting experience.
#178: The Best Replacement for Eagle Rare
Q: Do any Scotch or Irish distilleries release single-barrel whiskeys, or is that a uniquely American concept?
Yes, technically they do. It started in the United States but single-barrel whiskeys do happen everywhere, though it's less common.
#176: The Best Bourbon in the WORLD? Spirits Competitions, Green River, and More
Q: Do you think one of those wine topper vacuum things would work for whiskey to prolong the bottle when it's low?
Theoretically, yes. However, it might not fit all whiskey bottles, and the effectiveness depends on the amount of whiskey left in the bottle. Transferring to a smaller bottle may help more effectively prolong the whiskey's lifespan.
#176: The Best Bourbon in the WORLD? Spirits Competitions, Green River, and More
Q: Are flavored whiskeys taboo in the community or to each their own?
Flavored whiskeys are not taboo, but they are often considered a separate category in serious whiskey discussions. People drink them without judgment, but when talking about the best whiskies, they are usually overlooked.
#175: Can You Make High End Whiskey at Home? All About Home Blending
Q: Is there a trick to get used to higher proof whiskey?
Focusing on flavor and taking standard-sized sips can help acclimate to higher proof whiskeys, but there's no rush; appreciation develops over time.
