  • Great show and insightful topics

However I would definitely enjoy the episodes more if the guests would actually come into the studio for the interview instead of talking over the phone, because it’s often impossible to understand anything they say at all. And that’s the only reason for me to grant 3 out of 5 starts instead of all 5.

  • Daily?

Wharton Business Daily is the title, but lacking daily content. Is content being recorded and subsequently not posted? Seems like this podcast leans one direction politically so wondering if missed episodes are a result of unfavored opinions or discussions?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Fed Leadership, Rate Cuts, and Geopolitical Risks Ahead
Q: Give us your thoughts on the SCOTUS tariffs decision and its likely impact on markets and the economy.
The guest explains the decision shifts tariff dynamics, notes potential use of broad authorities like Section 338 to impose higher tariffs, and frames the outcome as likely not drastically different in market impact, though it introduces uncertainty and possible longer-term effects on specific sectors; labor data and policy tools will drive the next moves.
How Geopolitics Is Hitting Local Gas Stations
Q: So then, for the company, Lukoil, I guess one of the potential solutions might be if they were to sell their assets to another owner then, correct?
Yes, a potential solution for Lukoil would be divestment, but there are complications due to regulations and timelines for asset sales associated with the sanctions.
How Geopolitics Is Hitting Local Gas Stations
Q: What is the relationship then that these local stations have with the larger company? How does that work out?
These local stations are franchised locations, and the sanctions imposed on Lukoil primarily target ownership and control, but the impact is felt directly by family-run businesses which are considered collateral damage.
Why Interest Rates Can’t Fix Deeper Economic Problems
Q: How would that actually go about working then?
Harker suggests a modern version of land grants focusing on digital education and training to respond to job market demands, especially related to AI and technology.
Why Interest Rates Can’t Fix Deeper Economic Problems
Q: What was it that spurred your kind of literary juices to do a column like this?
After leaving the Fed, Pat Harker felt free to express strong opinions on economic issues that are not appropriately addressed by monetary policy.
