《伊豆的舞孃》收錄了日本諾貝爾獎得主川端康成的四部重要短篇作品——〈伊豆的舞孃〉〈溫泉旅館〉〈抒情歌〉〈禽獸〉。
其中，寫得最早的一篇〈伊豆的舞孃〉，是川端康成27歲時的作品，融入了他19歲時在伊豆半島旅行的體驗，包括了：在旅途中巧遇流浪藝人，與個性直爽純真的少女舞孃的真誠互動、旅館遇到的愛下棋的老先生、港邊搭船時遇到的礦工們……，在小說故事中，和這些人的相遇，讓主角少年感受到陌生人的暖意，即使離別帶來淚水，但這段際遇已成為他人生永誌不忘、珍貴的禮物。
