  • Ok at first….

This podcast originally was ok if you’re just starting off with low or no contact with family/friends. However, after years of no contact the creator harbors bitter resentment and has zero interest into moving into forgiveness (not reconciliation) which would truly set her free of the harm her mother caused. I had to stop listening - I don’t want to be filled with rage but want to be healed. She will tell you she is healed but listening to a few episodes will tell you she is still very hurt.

  • Big fan of Harriet and Unfollowing mum!

As a trauma therapist I champion the message in this podcast. By becoming the cycle breakers we are quantum leaping consciousness for our children’s generation and THIS is SO EXCITING for what will be possible for them in their lifetime! Thank you Harriet for all that you do for humanity! It is without surprise that this podcast has leapt to success. Xoxo

  • Spot on

As a child to a mother with borderline personality disorder, I feel like the host (and guests) are telling stories from my own childhood. Listening opened some old wounds I didn’t realize were there but it’s also validating to hear that others have had similar experiences. I went NC with my mom almost 3 years ago, it’s so helpful hearing other’s experience with this as society still pushes the “forgive family” narrative. Thank you for this podcast and please keep it going.

  • When Religion Becomes Divisive

Harriet hosts guests that really get to the hurt and pain of religious abuse and family estrangement. She guided me to personally explain the impact of my high control religion, Mormonism, on my sense of self, the trauma my religious upbringing, and the resulting estrangement from my Mormon family. Harriet’s podcasts help us all feel a little less alone by providing others experiences and her suggestions for healing and moving forward.

Ep92 EMDR with Shelley Bradley-Scholey
Q: What does an EMDR session actually look like?
An EMDR session involves identifying problematic memories, processing them through bilateral stimulation while eliciting emotional engagement, and navigating through different aspects of the memory without extensive talking.
Ep92 EMDR with Shelley Bradley-Scholey
Q: What is EMDR and how does it work?
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a therapy model developed to treat trauma. It aims to help individuals process traumatic memories by using bilateral stimulation, allowing clients to explore their past without becoming overwhelmed, and promotes healing by changing their emotional responses to those memories.
EP57 Religious abuse & estrangement
Q: Was that when you were 19? Everybody?
I didn't tell my family for a while, but when I told them, my mother was absolutely devastated.
EP57 Religious abuse & estrangement
Q: Can you let them know a little bit about who you are, what you do, and what you specialize in?
I'm a writer who's written a memoir about leaving a high-control religion, in my case, Mormonism.
