Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Electric Cars: He chose an MGS5, the Electric Car Journey
Q: What do you think about buying a second hand Tesla?
The hosts suggest that buying a second-hand Tesla can be a good idea if it fits the buyer's needs and they understand what they are getting, emphasizing doing research and ensuring the purchase aligns with expectations of tech, efficiency, and serviceability.
Electric Cars: Michael Chose the new GWM Ora5 SUV - but not in pink!
Q: What attracted you to the GWM Ora5, and how did you decide on this model?
Michael explains that the Ora5 offered a good balance of price, range, and features, and that previous exposure to other EVs plus a solar-equipped home made the switch feel practical and affordable.
Tech Guide #697 - Amazon's Delivering the Future announcements - new robotics, Alexa+ coming to Australia this year
Q: Is Australia one of the countries getting Alexa Plus in 2026?
Yes, Australia is confirmed to receive Alexa Plus in 2026 with a tailored, country‑specific rollout.
EFTM: To upgrade your smartphone or not? That is the question!
Q: With all the competing phones and ecosystems, is it worth sticking with the iPhone or moving to Android to save money while keeping the family connected?
Trevor explains that the decision hinges on how deeply the user is embedded in the Apple ecosystem (iMessage, iPad integration, etc.) and overall cost over several years; in many cases, the premium of sticking with Apple can be offset by keeping a last-year model a bit longer or switching to a competitive Android option if battery life, camera, and price meet the user's needs. In practical terms, if you can afford a current-gen device, upgrading now avoids more frequent handsets later and preserves ecosystem continuity for the family.
Electric Cars: The all-electric Ute? This landscaper owns one!
Q: So what drew you to making the decision to go to an EV and in an area where EVs are only just starting to become more popular than the Ute space?
The caller explains a shift from older diesel/petrol work vehicles to an all-electric model, driven by practical needs such as price, range, and the ability to tow and transport gear, plus the incident of a late-life health scare that reframed priorities and long-term cost of ownership.
