  • I don’t understand why

all the trumpies seem to hate this show. It’s fair and balanced. The show regularly proves that trump is both a criminal AND a fascist. What’s wrong there?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

After the Voting Rights Act: Harold Meyerson; Trump's ICE Prisons: John Nichols; Confederate Monuments: Christopher Knight
Q: What does the May Day mobilization suggest about grassroots power in the face of federal policy?
Small-scale, local actions can build momentum and solidarity, expanding the political space for resistance and pushing back against top-down policy shocks, especially when communities coordinate across labor, immigrant rights, and civil society groups.
After the Voting Rights Act: Harold Meyerson; Trump's ICE Prisons: John Nichols; Confederate Monuments: Christopher Knight
Q: What do you think is going to happen with Congress declaring war or authorizing the use of military force this week?
The constitution and congressional practice have been patchworked over decades, and the likelihood of a timely, decisive vote is slim given current leadership dynamics and party divisions, which makes a rapid check on presidential war powers unlikely.
Trump is sinking: Harold Meyerson; AI for the People: Ro Khanna; Solar is cheaper: Bill McKibben
Q: Please explain the core idea of your AI manifesto.
The core idea is to regulate AI to enhance human welfare, create a robust jobs program, and ensure safety and accountability, with federal standards while acknowledging the role of states in the interim.
Iran and elections: Harold Meyerson; Minnesota Changed Everything: Deepak Bhargava; Road Trip: Beverely Gage
Q: Well, we'll start today with your Minnesota moment. Deepak, you've been organizing social movements and helping fund progressive groups for a couple of decades now. Please explain.
Deepak Bhargava explains that Minnesota's response to the ICE presence, built by labor, faith groups, and community volunteers, forced policy changes and sparked a broader conversation that connected diverse communities in a nonviolent uprising, ultimately changing the political landscape long after the immediate events.
Iran War: Tom Stevenson; News Avoidant Voters: Tara McGowan; Crossword Poliitics: Natan Last
Q: What does Natan Last say about the responsibility of crossword clues in politics?
Last argues that clues reflect editorial perspectives and historical contexts, citing cases like updates to how 'illegal' is clued or how depictions of Africa and India have evolved, illustrating that puzzles can both document and influence cultural narratives.
