  • Best Pens podcast?

I’ve listened to all the big Penguins podcasts and this is my favorite. Nick and Nick always deliver good content, they don’t waste your time, and they’re not full of themselves. I’m impressed at their knowledge of the Penguins and the rest of the league and I never regret pressing play.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Where Does Nicholas Robertson Fit Following Arbitration Settlement With Penguins?
Q: If you were playing franchise mode GM with the salary cap off, what moves would you make to make the Pens a legit contender this upcoming season?
The plan would focus on trades rather than free agency, prioritizing players rumored to be available. The suggested package would include moving veteran pieces like Brian Rust for a superstar like Jason Robertson, then adding young players through targeted trades (e.g., Shane Wright, Alexander Nikiten) to build a core around Robertson and Crosby, with flexibility to accommodate cap space and long-term viability.
Pittsburgh Penguins Trade Deadline Mailbag
Q: How long could Sidney Crosby be out, and how does that affect the team's deadline strategy?
Crosby's absence has pressured the team to rely on depth and youth, and the hosts suggest patience in waiting for Crosby's return while not sacrificing long-term assets; the show notes two weeks into the four-week initial timeline as a key reference, but timelines are fluid.
Rebuild? Big Swing? What Direction Will the Penguins Go This Summer?
Q: Would you rather the Penguins stay on track with the rebuild or take a big swing this off season?
The host leans toward taking a swing, arguing there are multiple paths to improvement and enough cap space, draft capital, and prospect depth to pursue a bold move without sacrificing the core rebuild.
Playoff Preview | Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Q: What are the expectations for special teams, especially the Flyers' power play?
Penguins' penalty kill has been strong historically, and the Flyers' power play is not at the top of the league; the series could hinge on which team can capitalize on special-teams opportunities, particularly early in the series.
Playoff Preview | Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Q: Which goaltenders are expected to start, and how might goaltending influence the series?
Stuart Skinner is highlighted as having a strong pedigree, but the Penguins believe goaltending will be a close contest; Vlidar is hot for the Flyers, with Erson providing tough moments for the Penguins, making neutral-zone play and defense crucial.
