  • Calm, sensible, evidenced-based advice

Jen’s perspective is like having a sister or friend who gets where you are at and brings an arsenal of kind and tailored advice with no judgment. What all sensible parents crave in a world that can be full of too much noise and advice that is neither evidenced-based or sensible. What a blessing.

  • Reassuring and honest advice!

Listening to Jen’s podcast, especially the first episode on self soothing, has given me such comfort and reassurance in my parenting skills already. Unlike so many sleep consultants around she really does cut through all the noise and give calm tactics and advice I can trust. Definitely worth a follow, can’t wait to see what the next episodes bring.

  • New follower but here to stay!

I was recommended this podcast and only one episode in, I'm ready to put what I know about sleep to the background and take in everything Jen has to say! Having a two-year-old who seems like he is immune to any kind of sleep training has been exhausting!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why Oral Function Matters More Than You Think (For Sleep, Feeding & Development) with Mel Van Schelven
Q: What signs would you look for to suggest an assessment is needed beyond just sleep issues?
Look for crowded teeth, open bite tendencies, snoring, mouth breathing, and poor chewing with limited diet variety; if these persist past early childhood or involve significant airway concerns, an assessment with a specialist is warranted.
Why Oral Function Matters More Than You Think (For Sleep, Feeding & Development) with Mel Van Schelven
Q: Can you tell our listeners a bit about your background and what you do?
I'm an oral health therapist and an orofacial myofunctional therapist who focuses on how muscle function in the mouth affects breathing, sleep, chewing, and regulation in kids, with a practice called The Face Place.
You Were Never Meant to Be the Perfect Mum. Diving into Perfectionism in Parenting with Dr. Bianca Mastromanno
Q: What does good enough motherhood look like in practice?
Good enough motherhood emphasizes meeting core needs, attunement, and secure attachment while allowing for imperfect moments and ruptures that are repaired with compassion, rather than insisting on constant perfection.
You Were Never Meant to Be the Perfect Mum. Diving into Perfectionism in Parenting with Dr. Bianca Mastromanno
Q: Where does the perfect mother myth come from and why does it persist?
Cultural narratives, media portrayals, and societal expectations combine with payoff structures like patriarchy and capitalism to produce a pervasive standard that is unrealistic for most moms, leading to anxiety and burnout.
Trying to Conceive Wasn’t Supposed to Look Like This: An Honest IVF Conversation with Breanna May
Q: Breanna, when you succumbed to the fact that IVF was going to be a part of your journey to becoming pregnant, how did you work through that mindset?
It took a lot of acceptance and surrendering to the situation, recognizing that my desire for a baby was what mattered most, not the process to get there.
