  • Awesome stuff!

"Awesome stuff! I love the multiple perspectives and views on progressive education. I will say some of the sound quality of the early podcasts is "tinny" and it can be really hard to hear Dan sometimes...but otherwise this is a fantastic ed podcast. I wish I would've had educators with this mentality when I was in school! Ended up even supporting their Patreon. 🙌🙌 "

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Reanimating the Art of Teaching w/ Gary Stager
Q: What is your take on AI in education and reclaiming the pedagogical promise of computing in a world full of hype?
Gary cautions against hype and 'grift' in AI, emphasizes using computation to amplify human creativity and learning, and argues for a purposeful integration where AI supports the educator's capacity to design meaningful, interdisciplinary experiences rather than replace teachers.
Reanimating the Art of Teaching w/ Gary Stager
Q: How does your life intersect with Reggio Emilia and how does that intersect with the issue of pedagogical authoritarianism?
He describes Reggio Emilia as a benchmark for reflective practice, student-centered inquiry, and the belief that children's thinking should be made visible, while criticizing authoritarian models that standardize learning, and he discusses how those ideas inform his stance on tech-enabled, learner-centered classrooms.
Reanimating the Art of Teaching w/ Gary Stager
Q: Do you approach this from the perspective of a musician or an admirer when you think about education and jazz as a metaphor for learning?
Gary explains that his early musical experiences influenced a view of education as an art form where improvisation, collaboration, and deep listening to students guide teaching, rather than rigid, scripted delivery.
From Meritocracy to Human Interdependence: Redefining the Purpose of Education w/ Yong Zhao
Q: What role do politics and finance play in educational reform, and how can practitioners navigate these forces?
Policy and funding often determine what reforms are feasible; ambitious ideas must be framed in a way that appeals to political stakeholders and funders while maintaining a clear focus on long-term educational values and outcomes.
From Meritocracy to Human Interdependence: Redefining the Purpose of Education w/ Yong Zhao
Q: How can schools begin to move away from a prescriptive curriculum toward a more open-ended, student-driven model?
By starting with school-within-a-school pilots, giving students and teachers autonomy, and using projects that align with real-world problems, while also rethinking classroom management as community resilience and stewardship.
