  • Beautiful Conversations

The Psyche Podcast is a wonderful space for listening—care-full conversations with brilliant scholars and thinkers, this podcast is one of the best I’ve had the privilege of discovering. Love the Lacan-centric episodes in particular, but I’ve really enjoyed most of them.

Quique is an excellent facilitator and host; the way that Quique allows the conversations to develop organically is really beautiful. I’ve learned so much from this show and look forward to the continued conversations! Thanks... more

  • Top shelf material

This is fast becoming a go-to podcast. Guest quality is off the charts, especially for a newer, indie pod. Autrey is gaining traction as a host. The Boothby episodes should be enshrined in some Hall of Fame.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Helena Vissing: Embodied Unconscious
Q: How can free association extend beyond talk to include sensory and embodied dimensions?
Free association can include what the body is doing, sensing, or resisting at any moment. By inviting clients to describe sensations and correlate them with thoughts or memories, therapists can access unconscious material that might not emerge through speech alone, enriching the analytic process.
Helena Vissing: Embodied Unconscious
Q: What is your view on the idea of the self as a unified entity versus a set of self-states in somatic work?
I see self as a dynamic system comprised of multiple self-states that can move in and out of different contexts. This view respects the reality of multiplicity while offering a pragmatic way to respond to suffering, since people can still function and relate meaningfully without insisting on a single, fixed self.
Helena Vissing: Embodied Unconscious
Q: Could you begin to explore how psychoanalysis and somatics might need each other, and what that collaboration looks like in practice?
The two disciplines illuminate different dimensions of human experience: psychoanalysis helps us map unconscious processes through language, while somatics emphasizes lived bodily experience and embodied regulation. By acknowledging the legitimacy of both, clinicians can track not only the meanings that arise in talk but also the patterns that show up in the body, creating a more holistic approach to healing.
Liara Rioux: The Work of Intimacy
Q: Is there a way you could kind of like tease that out or discuss what the difference was in those two realms?
Roux explained that while sex work taught her about boundaries, her personal relationship lacked clarity due to earlier life experiences.
Liara Rioux: The Work of Intimacy
Q: How did you kind of first come to terms with being neurodivergent and what were some of the unique challenges?
Roux found sex work beneficial as it involved one-on-one connections, allowing her to relate closely to clients, including those who were also neurodivergent.
