4.8 out of 5 stars from 85 ratings
  • Significant sound quality problem

I’m not sure what audio effect this show is using but it’s somewhat difficult for me to listen to because of it. I can’t say for certain, but it sounds like that there is a delay between left and right audio channels. I am honestly amazed that whoever produces the show thought that this was advisable.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why the sex and drugs counterculture fell in love with Donald Trump and Jesus
Q: How did counterculture ideas influence modern political alignments and belief systems?
The discussion traces a line from 1960s counterculture skepticism, New Thought, and psychedelic politics to contemporary conspiracy-leaning and right-leaning movements, arguing that ideological shifts were less about changing beliefs and more about rebranding and repackaging existing themes (anti-establishment, emphasis on personal experience, distrust of experts) within new political labels.
Financially struggling Americans have no interest in participating in a political system that’s failed them
Q: How do you see the role of qualitative research in understanding political disengagement?
Qualitative interviews allow for deeper conversations and understanding of people's beliefs and feelings, which surveys often miss.
Financially struggling Americans have no interest in participating in a political system that’s failed them
Q: What would be the larger purpose behind the report?
The purpose is to highlight the disconnect many people feel in democracy, where they don't see themselves represented or included, leading them to opt out of voting.
The Secrets of Humor
Q: How can we find the room or the space to laugh during periods of grief and loss?
It may take time, but connecting with someone who understands your grief can open space for laughter. Letting go of the scripts surrounding grief can also allow humor to arise unexpectedly.
The Secrets of Humor
Q: What is your overall argument in this fantastic book you've just written?
Humor is not just about being performative, but about how we walk through the world and connect with others, noticing the delightful things around us.
