  • Hire a sound engineer

Content is 5 stars but the audio always sounds just a little off. like he’s in some big echoey space or is using a really cheap microphone. if he got better equipment and some e to mix the audio it would be great

  • Significant sound quality problem

I’m not sure what audio effect this show is using but it’s somewhat difficult for me to listen to because of it. I can’t say for certain, but it sounds like that there is a delay between left and right audio channels. I am honestly amazed that whoever produces the show thought that this was advisable.

  • Great show, unique perspective. If you are interested in learning more about how religion informs the far-right, reactionary counter-mobilization, this is a great resource for you!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trump is at record-low approval, but Democrats have not been able to build their own public support
Q: Tell us more about your latest book and what you aim to teach readers
Perlstein describes The Infernal Triangle, outlining how three force fields—authoritarianism in the GOP, the factlessness of the Democrats, and media dynamics—interact to create dysfunctional politics, while aiming to equip readers with pattern recognition to understand and respond to these dynamics.
Trump is at record-low approval, but Democrats have not been able to build their own public support
Q: What happens then?
The discussion shifts to potential paths for Democratic strategy, the risk of demobilization if the opposition lacks a coherent alternative, and how leadership and messaging can mobilize or disappoint voters.
Trump is at record-low approval, but Democrats have not been able to build their own public support
Q: And you are a historian, so you have seen these patterns, have you not?
Perlstein explains that the patterns are not simple repetitions but evolving coalitions and belief systems; he emphasizes the danger of forcing past models onto current politics and highlights how the Trump era expands and strains existing ideological categories.
Uncertainty makes science powerful — and incredibly vulnerable
Q: How do you view the role of philosophy and metaphysics in scientific progress, given the concerns about instrumentational limits?
Philosophy and metaphysics can illuminate questions that science cannot yet answer, but they must not replace testable hypotheses. In my view, philosophy serves as a broader lens, while science should remain grounded in predictions, testability, and empirical validation, otherwise it risks becoming mere speculation.
Uncertainty makes science powerful — and incredibly vulnerable
Q: Because the main title is very provocative, walk us through your core thesis and the reasons you believed there would be limits to science.
The core claim is that science has been extraordinarily successful in mapping the universe and the history of life, but there are fundamental limits—cognitive, physical, and socio-political—that will prevent it from delivering a final, all-encompassing theory. The direction from then on is likely to be filling in details rather than spectacular revolutions, especially in areas like consciousness and the mind-body problem.
