Grizabella was the wrong cat to die. After seeing CATS the Musical for the first time in July of 2016, podcast host Mike Abrams was filled with a whirlwind of emotions. He was amused, confused, and a little angry. Almost exactly three years later when the 2019 CATS movie trailer came out, Mike had enough. It was time to speak his truth – Grizabella was the wrong Cat to Die at the Jellicle Ball. In... more

  • Meh-ow

The host slurs words and speak too fast. It also appears he has his own opinions about the guests’ characters and tries to force mythology that simply isn’t there. I truly don’t think those you interview care as much as you do.

  • Meow!! 😻

Love this fun podcast! Having seen Cats both on Broadway and several times on the Oasis of the Seas, I still had no clue as to the relationships, back stories, etc, so it’s fun to hear everyone’s take! Love the variety of guests and hearing about their backgrounds and experiences while in the show. Keep up the good work!

  • Great Talk About CATS!

At the airport before a transcontinental flight, I was overcome with a need to hear some talk about the better-than-I-thought-but-still-horrifying film of the musical CATS...and so I binged this VERY enjoyable exploration of the good, the bad, and the “wha-???” of CATS. I fully expect more episodes that take a deep dive into the film!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep253 - Dudney Joseph Jr., Munkustrap in CATS: The Jellicle Ball
Q: What was the biggest challenge in developing Munkustrap as the narrator and MC within this ballroom framework?
Balancing the need to be a strong narrator who can lead the ball while not overpowering the story; I had to learn to take up space and still serve the other cats and the audience.
Ep253 - Dudney Joseph Jr., Munkustrap in CATS: The Jellicle Ball
Q: When you first heard about the idea of blending ballroom with CATS, what was your initial reaction?
I thought it was brilliant and natural given my ballroom background; it made sense to weave Vogue and classical ballet into the music while staying respectful to the original CATS score.
Ep246 - Quentin Earl Darrington, Old Deuteronomy in 2016 Broadway Revival
Q: Why should someone see Masquerade, and how does it differ from traditional productions?
Masquerade is a radically immersive, open-theater experience that changes nightly; it allows the audience to be up-close with the performers and environments, creating a live, visceral connection unlike any proscenium show.
Ep246 - Quentin Earl Darrington, Old Deuteronomy in 2016 Broadway Revival
Q: What were some of the memorable moments when you first joined CATS and learned the role?
I remember the heaviness of the Old Deuteronomy suit, dancing in a large ensemble, and how training with a room full of elite dancers pushed me to adapt quickly; the theatrical atmosphere and backstage dynamics left a lasting impression.
Ep240 - Savannah DeCrow, Grizabella on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's Oasis of the Seas
Q: What drew you to cruise work?
I've always loved traveling and cruise work is a great entry level job for new actors to save money because you don't have a lot of expenses on board.
