Grizabella was the wrong cat to die. After seeing CATS the Musical for the first time in July of 2016, podcast host Mike Abrams was filled with a whirlwind of emotions. It was time to speak his truth – Grizabella was the wrong Cat to Die at the Jellicle Ball. In... more

  • Meh-ow

The host slurs words and speak too fast. It also appears he has his own opinions about the guests’ characters and tries to force mythology that simply isn’t there. I truly don’t think those you interview care as much as you do.

  • Meow!! 😻

Love this fun podcast! Having seen Cats both on Broadway and several times on the Oasis of the Seas, I still had no clue as to the relationships, back stories, etc, so it’s fun to hear everyone’s take! Love the variety of guests and hearing about their backgrounds and experiences while in the show. Keep up the good work!

  • Great Talk About CATS!

At the airport before a transcontinental flight, I was overcome with a need to hear some talk about the better-than-I-thought-but-still-horrifying film of the musical CATS...and so I binged this VERY enjoyable exploration of the good, the bad, and the “wha-???” of CATS. I fully expect more episodes that take a deep dive into the film!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep261 - Petra Ilse Dam, Bombalurina on Asia Tour
Q: How did learning the German version influence your approach to Bombalurina in Vienna?
It required heavy language work and phonetic coaching, but it also allowed me to bring more depth to the character once I could connect emotionally with the lyrics, not just the movement.
Ep257 - Isabelle McCalla, Swing in McCalla's 1998 CATS & Emma Tate in Schmigadoon!
Q: Who would you want to perform as in a one-night CATS guest spot?
Bomb (Bombalurina) would be Izzy's pick for a bold, high-energy standout moment.
Ep256 - Kendall Grayson Stroud, Swing in CATS: The Jellicle Ball
Q: What has it been like to have guest judges and dream guests for the show?
The guest judging has been exciting, with a mix of ballroom icons and big names; the team even imagines aspirational guests like Beyoncé or the Obamas, though logistics can be challenging.
Ep256 - Kendall Grayson Stroud, Swing in CATS: The Jellicle Ball
Q: How has the transfer to Broadway been for you, given you were already involved in the project in workshops?
The transfer felt like starting from scratch in many ways, with new constraints and a condensed runway, but built on a strong source material and the possibility to expand on the productions visually and narratively.
Ep253 - Dudney Joseph Jr., Munkustrap in CATS: The Jellicle Ball
Q: What was the biggest challenge in developing Munkustrap as the narrator and MC within this ballroom framework?
Balancing the need to be a strong narrator who can lead the ball while not overpowering the story; I had to learn to take up space and still serve the other cats and the audience.
