I am a big fan of their book series. the books are already "very short", to cut off a good 90% off in the audiobooks make it more of a very short introduction to a very short introduction. I do enjoy the content that is here, I just wish they actually took the term audiobook and made the books into audiobook, not whatever this is.
Enjoyable, fast, and informative listens from the authors of a vast array of short books in the OUP series of Very Short Introductions. As a reflection of the often surprising quality of the works and the authors who have created them with great expertise and passion, I particularly enjoyed the episodes on Japanese Literature, Environmental Law, and the US Supreme Court. As with the VSI series, there is something for everyone!
Whilst most episodes are interesting, the sound quality makes the podcast quite tough to follow in my opinion
Unfortunately this podcast is poorly produced and the format of episodes seems to be ‘I wrote a short book, so I’m not actually going to tell you anything, you should read it instead’
I’ve loved and benefited much from Oxford’s VSI series of books. The notion of having internationally renowned experts introduce their specialties, in “layman’s terms,” in small little books (almost booklets) that are “Very Short Introductions” is brilliant. In keeping with that innovative publishing methodology, this podcast version has the authors of these books provide an audio summary in short little 5-10 minute podcasts. It’s a fascinating adaptation of the philosophy to a new medium.
