I am also a registered nurse, pregnant with my second and I am planning an unassisted birth in the jungle of Costa Rica. My first was a c section 6 years ago. This story resonates deeply and is giving me hope for other nurses who will help change the system systemically.
I am always so fascinated when people who work as health professionals experience birth trauma during their hospital births and then end up wanting home births. Although I feel her pain, because I also had a traumatic c section, it gives me hope that when health professionals experience these things - they may be part of the change for the future of birthing in hospitals.
A must listen for birth workers (midwives & doulas) supporting women who are desiring a VBAC outside of the constraints of the hospital system.
