  • Great pod but wow!

Great podcast and very informative. But dear god, listening them whining about the ‘too long flying display at RIAT’, how ‘tough it is to be outdoors for 8hrs’, ‘it’s exhausting!’ Come on lads, you’re watching planes, not digging coal out with your bare hands. You’ve always got the option to leave early!

  • Entertaining insight

I am a regular airshow attender and this podcast provides the insight I have been looking for. All those taking part 'know their stuff. They don't take themselves too seriously and make the show entertaining as well as educational. They have also had some well respected guests, reflecting that they have a professional approach. The pod is a also a great supplement while we are in a restricted situation for airshows and pretty much everything else. When things do relax I will be trying out new th... more

Episode 99: Paul Gibbs, commercial pilot, Trago Mills SAH-1 and Tipsy Nipper owner
Q: Can you share a standout memory from flying the DC-6 and what made it unique?
Flying the DC-6, a three- or four-engine piston aircraft, was a unique and demanding experience with complex engine management, crew coordination, and decision-making under pressure, including improvised techniques like windmill starts and managing multiple engines at once.
Episode 99: Paul Gibbs, commercial pilot, Trago Mills SAH-1 and Tipsy Nipper owner
Q: What were the key turning points that led you from military aspirations to commercial flying?
A pivotal decision to accept a sponsorship and pursue Air Atlantique work, combined with the medical and career-wide opportunities that opened up in the 1990s, shifted him toward commercial aviation rather than pursuing Tornado F3 or other military routes.

Q: How did your early exposure to aviation shape your career choices?
Exposure to aviation from a young age, including air cadets and experiences around Daedalus and Fleetlands, sparked a lifelong passion. The formative era, plus sponsorship opportunities like Air Atlantique's Fugly scheme, helped him transition from hobbyist to professional pilot.
Episode 103: Major Andrej Fiorelli, Slovenian Armed Forces PC-9M Hudornik Display Pilot
Q: How did you become the display pilot, and how has the routine evolved since you started?
Three pilots were eligible to take the display role; Fiorelli volunteered, began in 2015, and progressively evolved the routine by introducing more demanding maneuvers and negative aerobatics, transforming the display over the years.
Episode 103: Major Andrej Fiorelli, Slovenian Armed Forces PC-9M Hudornik Display Pilot
Q: What exactly is the role of the PC-9M Hudournik in your forces, and what can it do in combat and training?
The PC-9M serves as a primary trainer with a growing focus on close air support (CAS), supporting JTAC training within NATO, carrying bombs, unguided rockets, and guns, with simulated air-to-air capability and a focus on training and CAS missions.
