  • Political content unwelcome

I used to really enjoy this podcast for its defense analysis but, lately, many of the commentators go out of their way to bash, second guess or otherwise demean the current president and his administration. Sometimes it’s subtle, other times more overt. Fortunately, there are plenty of other podcasts where I can spend my time.

  • Aviation Week - love the technical content, lose the political commentary

Someone please muzzle Robert Wall. His attempts at political commentary, undercut the credibility and extreme value Aviation Week provides with respect to their impartial technical analysis and ability to break down and articulate major complex issues. Take a play from Steve Trimble and just stick to the aviation. Otherwise outstanding podcast!! Journalism is about facts and data. Keep the opinions to yourself. Regardless of if we agree with them…

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Does Boeing Need China Anymore?
Q: Scott, investors expected 500 Boeing orders from China; is that a reasonable expectation given the data you've seen?
Not really. The 500 figure was far-fetched; we should expect something closer to 250 firm orders with about 250 options, and the actual 200 announced falls within that revised outlook.
Space Planes, Space Control and Space Domain Awareness
Q: How does space domain awareness change the way forces monitor and protect satellites?
Space domain awareness is described as a unifying term for tracking, surveillance, and analytics that enable timely decisions to protect or maneuver satellites, reducing vulnerability to adversary actions and enabling rapid response in contested space.
Space Planes, Space Control and Space Domain Awareness
Q: What is driving the current focus on space control and why now?
The hosts and guests explain that the combination of mature space services becoming a warfighting domain, rising investments by the Space Force, and the strategic competition with rivals like China and Russia are accelerating this focus, with budget signals and new capabilities aimed at ensuring freedom of maneuver and survivability in space.
Can NASA's X-59 And Boom's Overture Really Deliver A New Era Of Supersonic Travel?
Q: What timeline and testing phases are outlined for the X-59's progress?
Phase one involves envelope expansion and flight testing up to around Mach 1.5 and 60,000 feet, with 50–80 flights planned; phase two centers on acoustic validation near communities, followed by phase three with initial community testing and site selection around Edwards Air Force Base.
Can NASA's X-59 And Boom's Overture Really Deliver A New Era Of Supersonic Travel?
Q: What are the two paths forward for supersonics mentioned in the discussion?
One path focuses on developing aircraft with significantly lower sonic boom, enabling a ground-based certification; the other path would allow conventional boom aircraft but restrict operations to over water until a boom-friendly standard is established.
