Thank you for doing this podcast! I’m a band director and ammeter musician from Southeast MO, and I have learned so much from every episode! There is so much wisdom from the stories of each player!

I would suggest that you ring up Gerry Pagano for an interview. I took a lot of lessons from him while he was with the St. Louis Shnpjony and he’s a great guy, that is a blast to talk to with a unique career arch (no pun intended!). He has the single best bass trombone sound I have ever heard!

  • Phenomenal stuff here

While there are surprisingly a lot of podcasts featuring low brass interviews, I find that this production stands at the top along with the Third Coast podcast. Every episode, I learn a lot from a prominent musician in our field, interviewed by two hosts that are great listeners and know a lot about the instrument. I’d highly recommend to any serious or passionate trombonist in the industry.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode #46 - Tiziano Mazzoleni
Q: How did the decision to pursue a solo career evolve?
I gradually shifted focus from aiming for an orchestral position to developing a solo and chamber music career, while maintaining teaching and remote projects to ensure financial stability and artistic growth.
Episode #46 - Tiziano Mazzoleni
Q: What were your main inspirations during the crucial period of study in Chicago and beyond?
I was deeply inspired by American trombonists like Joe Alessi, Jay Friedman, Charlie Vernon, and Mulkay, and those experiences in Chicago helped me compare techniques and musical approaches with European training, fueling my ambition to explore beyond my initial path.
Episode #44 - Sasha Romero
Q: What is your best piece of advice for musicians?
It's easy to be hard on yourself; be kind to yourself because music should bring joy and community rather than stress.
Episode #44 - Sasha Romero
Q: What was your path like? Did it come easy to you?
I would say it did. I grew up in Texas where the band system was very competitive, which suited my competitive nature and helped me quickly excel and practice diligently.
Episode #44 - Sasha Romero
Q: Can you tell us how did you get the trombone? Did it find you or did you search it out?
It was a little bit of an accident actually. I grew up in a very musical family with siblings who played brass instruments, and after not getting into trumpet, I chose trombone because it was the closest to trumpet.
