Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Las Bellas de Trash-Mex Vol. 2: Ofelia Medina, Lyn May, and Lina Santos
Q: Armando asks for a Lina Santos recommendation to explore more of her career; which title would you suggest to trace her evolution as a strong leading presence?
Mujeres Infieles (The Faithless Women) is a strong follow-up as it showcases her command of screen presence and power, followed by Verdu Leto's Part 2 for a blend of humor and fierce agency; La Dama de Rojo also offers a bold, revenge-driven Narco-era persona.
Las Bellas de Trash-Mex Vol. 2: Ofelia Medina, Lyn May, and Lina Santos
Q: Mariana, if you could recommend another Ofelia Medina film for someone starting her filmography, what would you choose and why?
Frida (1983) stands out as a later, more expansive portrait of Medina's artistry, showing a mature, nuanced performance that highlights her range beyond her earlier, more youthful roles.
Oye Bro ¿Es Un Slasher? Part I: Panico En El Bosque (1990) & Bosque De Muerte (1993)
Q: What do you think is a slasher?
A slasher is kind of just a systematic, rhythmic killing of a ton of people in a horror movie, with at least seven plus kills.
Trash-Mex Special: Colombia's B Cinema w/ Petroglyph Media
Q: What was the reception when you started to reach out to people about Jairo Pinilla's filmography?
The vibe was that he was very giving to the younger generation, and when I spoke with the guy that ran the website, he said that Jairo would be interested in licensing the films.
Trash-Mex Special: Colombia's B Cinema w/ Petroglyph Media
Q: Can you tell me how you started this label and why did you want to start this label and why these two movies in particular?
I came up around the time that the DVD industry was booming. I've been collecting for years and I always thought about Colombian cinema because my girlfriend at the time was Colombian.
