  • Love it!

Ryan Roland-Smith is great! As a podcast, I do prefer the old format, but it’s super cool that the show is on TV and YouTube now. The interviews are great (my favorite was the Felix interview) and I also like Ryan’s analysis and insider’s perspective on pitching in MLB and other topics. Thanks, Ryan! Go M’s!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is the Mariners bullpen deep enough?
Q: With all these new pitch names popping up, do pitches really need a big arsenal or just a handful of elite pitches that they command?
The guest explains that while multiple pitches can be useful, effective pitchers often succeed by mastering a core set of pitches and using them intelligently, avoiding overcomplication and focusing on conviction, sequencing, and making each pitch count in the moment.
What is going on with the Mariners?
Q: What makes a pitcher have a bad outing compared to a good outing?
Outings hinge on timing, mechanics, and how quickly a pitcher can execute their plan; even good stuff can look off if a pitcher misses by a few pitches or loses rhythm, while consistent execution separates the best from the rest.
Danny Farquhar’s Wild Baseball Story: Pitch Tipping, Trout, and Survival
Q: What is the biggest misconception about pitch tipping?
The biggest misconception is that if a hitter knows what pitch is coming, they are guaranteed to hit a home run; in reality, many at-bats still end in outs even when pitches are anticipated.
JR Ritchie Talks Braves, Mariners & Big League Pressure
Q: What was the plan against Josh Naylor when facing him with the bases loaded?
The pitcher explains they were aiming to go up and in, trying to challenge him with a fastball and then mix in a cutter after the initial approach, to avoid leaving a cookie pitch with an open base.
George Kirby Broke Down EVERY Pitch… This Was Eye-Opening
Q: How do you prep to broadcast and study opponents?
Alex Mayer recommends using Baseball Savant and Illustrator heat maps to identify tendencies, then cross-checking with player conversations to build patterns for strategy.
