  • The beginnings of autobiographies

My favorite books are autobiographies of people in show business , and these interviews are the beginning of those stories. Thank you for sharing how the sausage gets made! It’s my favorite part!

  • Great Guests, Terrible Interviewer

The podcast has a great premise with a great guest list, but unfortunately, the interviewer / host is not up to par. When the interviewer speaks more than the person being interviewed, there’s an issue. (It makes listening very unenjoyable.)

Take the Patti LuPone episode, for example. If you are lucky enough to have a theatrical legend on your show, you need to let her speak instead of saying what you would “imagine” her answer to be after every question. It was overall a TOUGH listen, especia... more

  • True Gem

I tripped over this on social media during Alan’s Hadestown takeover, and I am hooked! I started with Reeve Carney, and look forward to listening to all of them. Alan has the emotional intelligence to bring out the best in each guest, skillfully moving them through their storytelling and never stepping on them. Great stories emerge!

  • Engaging and authentic!

The Theatre Podcast is my go-to for backstage conversations with Broadway’s best. Alan truly holds space for each guest in the most engaging and delightful way. It’s organic, funny and raw. Love this show.

Ep447 - Alex Brightman (From the vault)
Q: What motivates you?
Brightman says he is motivated by reaching people who haven't seen his work yet and by wanting to give the audience the best possible version of the show, implying a duty to those who would discover it.
Ep446 - Matt Rodin: Building Doors in Broadway's Walls
Q: Why is making stuff important to your career?
Because every opportunity I've had came from something I made—whether it was red carpet videos or building a new game. Making things creates visibility and opens doors that traditional routes don't always provide.
Ep446 - Matt Rodin: Building Doors in Broadway's Walls
Q: What advice would you give to your younger self entering this industry?
Be patient and be bold: don't wait for permission. Create opportunities, build your own path, and trust that the doors you build can lead to the chances you're hoping for.
Ep446 - Matt Rodin: Building Doors in Broadway's Walls
Q: What's your philosophy on embracing AI and technology in theatre?
Technology is a tool, much like Photoshop or editing software. When used responsibly, it enhances creativity and education without erasing the human element or the magic of live theatre.
Ep446 - Matt Rodin: Building Doors in Broadway's Walls
Q: How did Spike come to life and what makes it work?
Spike started as an idea for a daily theater history trivia game. It evolved by refining clues, building a back-end system that can generate 25 clues per round, and focusing on a format that's quick, engaging, and educational for theatre kids worldwide.
