Love this podcast. Some amazing surf history to learn here. And amazing stories too, from some of the most famous characters. I especially love the photographer interviews as surf photography is so beautiful to behold and hard to do well.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Inside Surfer's Hell | Belgian Surfboard Craftsmanship, Custom Boards & North Sea Surf Culture
Q: Why do you prefer hand shaping over machine shaping, and can machines ever replace it?
Hand shaping offers unparalleled control and allows each board to have its own 'magic' and respond to a surfer's intent; machines can help but cannot fully replicate the nuanced adjustments and understanding gained through hands-on craft.
Inside Surfer's Hell | Belgian Surfboard Craftsmanship, Custom Boards & North Sea Surf Culture
Q: What is the most important thing in surfing, in your opinion?
There are many important aspects, but keeping the love for surfing alive through reading, checking boards, and maintaining equipment is essential, especially when the waves are flat for long periods.
Roger Hall: The Legendary Surfboard Shaper Behind Decades of Surfboard Innovation | The Temple of Surf Podcast
Q: What makes a great collaboration between shaper and surfer?
A continuous, open dialogue that captures the rider's needs and translates them into a board that retains the maker's energy and intent.
Roger Hall: The Legendary Surfboard Shaper Behind Decades of Surfboard Innovation | The Temple of Surf Podcast
Q: How do you balance traditional handcraft with modern tooling?
Start with a deep hands-on understanding of shape and rocker, then use machines to preserve and reproduce that knowledge, never letting technology replace the craft's intuition.
Roger Hall: The Legendary Surfboard Shaper Behind Decades of Surfboard Innovation | The Temple of Surf Podcast
Q: What is the most important thing in surfing?
The waves are the essential element; they determine the experience and the soul of surfing more than any individual board or rider.
