  • Rather insipid

Stale ideas here, better suiting bygone times (as much as it pains this erstwhile Burkean to admit it). Warmed-over, milquetoast platitudes and the same familiar received “wisdom” that landed Britain – and the rest of our sorry continent – in this ever more wretched and embarrassing state. One regrets our Tories haven’t been conservative for decades.

    Bring on the accelerationism!

  • Kathryn Porter interview

Another superb interview from Laurie Wastell, thank you.

I’ve been following Kathryn Porter in podcasts for some time. Sheer brilliance. I wish she would be Secretary of State for Energy Security.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Britain: Island of Strangers | The Sceptic Ep.82
Q: What is the core thesis of Island of Strangers?
Britain has undergone a structural transformation driven by mass migration, leading to a fragmented society where traditional freedoms, especially freedom of speech, are increasingly limited by new cultural power structures and identity politics.
The Truth About Palantir | Andrew Orlowski The Sceptic Ep.80
Q: So Palantir is what we're here to discuss today. It's got this rather haughty name, you know, somewhat frightening to some. What is Palantir and where did it come from?
Palantir originated after 9-11 with plans to apply big data analysis and Bayesian methods to intelligence, with initial CIA funding and later expansion into public-sector IT, including health data projects in the NHS; the guest outlines both potential benefits and concerns about state power and governance.
Climate Alarmism “Implausible”, UN Admits | Chris Morrison The Sceptic Ep.78
Q: Why do you think media and some scientists continued to promote alarmist narratives despite growing concerns about the validity of those scenarios?
They argue it's driven by incentives for attention, grants, and policy momentum, with journalists often relying on 'scientists say' language to justify doom-laden stories, and some scientists maintaining caution or pivoting to different, less alarmist framing while staying within a professional ecosystem that rewards dramatic forecasts.
Climate Alarmism “Implausible”, UN Admits | Chris Morrison The Sceptic Ep.78
Q: But I suppose just take us through exactly what they've said and what the particular scaremongering scenarios have been?
The guests describe how IPCC scenarios, notably RCP 8.5, were built on optimistic assumptions about fossil fuel use and emissions, how these were embedded into climate models, and how mainstream media chased sensational headlines based on those projections even as scientists began moving away from them.
Will the Grooming Gang Inquiry Work? | The Sceptic Ep.74
Q: How does the structure of the inquiry affect its ability to deliver real accountability, and what changes are hoped for compared to earlier drafts?
Adam Wren notes that the shift from a purely national frame to a system of local investigations feeding into a national report could improve accountability, provided there is proper scrutiny and transparency to prevent dodgy dealings.
