  • The “Boys Are Back In Town” and talking sense every week!

Being a late boomer, every week when I hear Nick and Paul on this podcast, I am reminded of that 1976 Thin Lizzy classic - The Boys Are Back In Town - "Guess who just got back today

Them wild-eyed boys that had been away". Back this week with some more classic takes, great analysis, and a dose of humour. The perfect podcast 😊

  • Not as good as it was

I have listened to Nick for a number of years now and really enjoyed his podcasts. I do find Paul Cox a bit annoying as he goes on and on and has a habit of going off topic. More Nick less Paul please.

  • I came here to escape academics!

Normally love mix of banter and down-to-earth commentary, but the political pontifications of so-called 'academic' agent are increasingly cringeworthy and going dark places: constant reference to 'that nation' supposedly controlling all world affairs but no guts to state his age-old conspiracy theory in plain terms. Academic agent should stick to English Literature while Nick sticks to the usually sound mix of reaction and humour.

  • Always more of staunch Rev. J Franklin

Psalms, Bible readings, musings - more of the good Father. A good man is Cox, on a journey so he is - perhaps he could ask Nick more questions than go on normie rants. I respect Nick’s intellectual fortitude and bravery. More impressions wouldn’t go amiss. Nick is genuinely talented and funny.

  • The deep thinker and the normie

Nick Dixon is a deep thinker and a funny guy. His insights are entertaining and thought provoking and he makes it very clear how his opinions are formed, making him very accessible and interesting, leaving plenty of room for disagreement. Paul Cox is a total normie whose conclusions were reached 20+ years ago by ‘awake’ folk. Best example: he’s always at pains to show he’s not racist even though no sane person would think he is.

The War for the Right - Restore Britain vs Reform UK | Basil the Great
Q: What did you make of that Advance thing, that they were going to merge, then they didn't?
Basil mentions that no one has a monopoly on being problematic in politics, and he elaborates that the Advance party had potential but lacked the popularity of Restore Britain. He suggests that they need more time to find their footing before any merger discussions become meaningful.
Joseph Loconte - J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Confront the Gathering Storm
Q: What would Lewis make of the current problems of the West?
He would suggest forming a circle of like-minded people and emphasize the importance of not dehumanizing others while advocating for sensible immigration policies.
Joseph Loconte - J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Confront the Gathering Storm
Q: How did their experiences and conclusions differ?
Tolkien had a sense of the heroic intact coming out of war, while Lewis was more critical and expressed a hatred towards war, showing their different perspectives on heroism.
Joseph Loconte - J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Confront the Gathering Storm
Q: What actually inspired you to write this book now?
I had done a previous book on Tolkien and Lewis and wanted to explore their experiences during World War II and how it shaped their literature.
Richard the Fourth - The West's Real Problem Isn't Political
Q: Can Christianity be robust and deal with some of the problems we have now? Or is it just sort of by its nature, do we have to love our enemy and our brother?
Christianity has a historical context where it isn't strictly pacifist and can respond to political challenges when aligned with spiritual understanding.
