Reviews

4.9 out of 5 stars from 97 ratings
  • Great guests, average interviewing

This show has a solid list of guests and topics, but the host starts nearly every question with “kinda bring me through that album”. And responds to everything with “That’s awesome, man”. I just think he could prepare better questions and be far more articulate. If you like hearing the filler-word “kinda” and “bring me through [insert anything]” numerous times, this is the show for you.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Chris Raines (Spitfire, Norma Jean, Sunndrug)
Q: What does the future look like for you musically and personally?
Professionally, Chris sees a shift toward balancing family life with music, with a desire to travel and experience new places. Personally, he remains connected to music at home and in local projects, but the immediate future is focused on family stability and personal fulfillment.
Chris Raines (Spitfire, Norma Jean, Sunndrug)
Q: What led to your decision to leave Norma Jean, and how did family life factor in?
Family became the priority as the twins grew; the challenge of being away constantly grew over time. The decision was driven by the realization that life at home mattered more, and it wasn't feasible to keep touring at the previous pace.
Chris Raines (Spitfire, Norma Jean, Sunndrug)
Q: How did the transition to Cult Fiction come together, and what was it like working with Eric Rachel?
Cult Fiction came together with John and Dan while Matt was less involved, and working with Eric Rachel was transformative, enabling a heavier yet more eclectic approach that reflected their influences and ultimately became a source of pride for the band.
Chris Raines (Spitfire, Norma Jean, Sunndrug)
Q: Can you walk us through the Dead Next Door recording experience and what it meant for your career?
Recording Dead Next Door at Tracks East was a milestone, signaling that they could create a significant record with peers they admired. It was a chaotic, formative process that produced a powerful early sound and helped propel Chris toward later opportunities with Norma Jean and beyond.
Chris Raines (Spitfire, Norma Jean, Sunndrug)
Q: What was it like signing with Solid State, and how did that move shape your path?
Signing with Solid State was incredibly exciting and felt like the natural next step at the time, even though the contract later seemed overly favorable to the label. It gave them exposure and opportunities to tour, but it didn't end up lasting, which opened the door to subsequent label changes and new directions.
