  • Up to date and Informative

I recently discovered rumcast podcast and I have been enjoying it. Living in Toronto, I am at a significant disadvantage when it comes to buying many rums that are widely available in Florida and the US. I attend the Miami Rumfest as well as Rum Renaissance when I can. It’s so refreshing to hear two down to earth guys who know their rums with a nice splash of humor as well. My option may differ with some rums but that’s what makes this podcast even more interesting!

Thank you so much for doing ... more

  • Great show for rum enthusiasts and newbies

This show was one of my first sources of information about rum when I started getting interested in cane spirits. The hosts are great, they interview a broad spectrum of many of the most influential people in rum, and I feel like I learn something or find something I want to try with every episode. Recommend!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

150: Richard Seale & Ian Burrell Part 2: Jamaica Rum GI Debates, Aging Myths, and History vs. Tradition
Q: How do GIs differ from trademarks in terms of enforcement and scope?
GIs are collective registrations that tie a product to a geographic area, with enforcement handled by authorities and registrars; trademarks protect a brand, and enforcement rests on the trademark holder, making GIs more about regional integrity than individual branding.
150: Richard Seale & Ian Burrell Part 2: Jamaica Rum GI Debates, Aging Myths, and History vs. Tradition
Q: What describes rum being made in a GI registration, and how is it different from a definition of the product itself?
Richard explained that a GI describes the product and its geographic linkage, not a rigid recipe or a complete definition of Jamaica Rum; it sets descriptors and origin boundaries, while allowing flexibility in production within that defined scope.
147: Carrying on the Mount Gay Legacy with Trudiann Branker, Master Blender
Q: What blended rum product not made at Mount Gay do you most respect and admire?
Foursquare, Dorelis, 14 maybe.
147: Carrying on the Mount Gay Legacy with Trudiann Branker, Master Blender
Q: What makes you more nervous, having to play table tennis on your own or having to play doubles with Allen Smith?
Doubles with Allen Smith.
146: O Reizinho and the Tradition of Madeira Rum Making (with Pedro Ferreira)
Q: What challenges are you facing as a small producer?
I can't expect to be as involved with government benefits as the big players, but I do get some support in terms of marketing and promotion.
