  • Great Coverage of the World of Rum

These guys really present rum in a way that’s accessible and entertaining for novices to the category, all whilst being informative and engaging for the geeks and enthusiasts. • Up to date and Informative

I recently discovered rumcast podcast and I have been enjoying it. Living in Toronto, I am at a significant disadvantage when it comes to buying many rums that are widely available in Florida and the US. I attend the Miami Rumfest as well as Rum Renaissance when I can. It’s so refreshing to hear two down to earth guys who know their rums with a nice splash of humor as well. My option may differ with some rums but that’s what makes this podcast even more interesting!

  • Great show for rum enthusiasts and newbies

This show was one of my first sources of information about rum when I started getting interested in cane spirits. The hosts are great, they interview a broad spectrum of many of the most influential people in rum, and I feel like I learn something or find something I want to try with every episode. Recommend!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

157: What's After Black Tot + the Real Life of a Rum Brand Ambassador with Mitch Wilson
Q: What is the reality of being a rum ambassador beyond the glamour?
The job is a mix of travel, education, and hands-on promotion; success depends on delivering a great experience, engaging bartenders, and building relationships that turn into ongoing sales, not just flashy events.
155: The Search for the Best American Rums with Mainland Rum's Seth Benhaim
Q: How did you come to select your initial releases and how do you decide which barrels to turn into single-cask Mainland offerings?
He explains that initial releases emerged from discovering exceptional barrels that were undervalued or under-marketed, and that the decision to release single barrels hinges on price, quality, and the ability to price around $100 or less for most offerings, while reserving aspirational higher-aged projects for special editions.
155: The Search for the Best American Rums with Mainland Rum's Seth Benhaim
Q: What inspired you to be the IB that focuses on continental American rum specifically, and why did you think this didn't exist before you started?
Seth recounts discovering high-quality, well-aged rums hidden in distilleries and barrels, the lack of an existing mainland IB, and his belief that Americans could produce world-class aged rums by leveraging local distilleries and wood aging practices; he emphasizes being the first in this niche.
155: The Search for the Best American Rums with Mainland Rum's Seth Benhaim
Q: So you're prepared to talk to Rum people. It's mostly what I wanted to make sure before we just like dive into the deep end of nerdy Rum questions.
Seth explains that his background spans multiple spirits, but his focus with Mainland Rum is on continentally sourced American rums from the 48 contiguous states, with a strict rule set (age-stated, single barrels, cast strength, no blends or imports) to maintain quality and brand identity.
152: Behind The Rums of Mexico Series with Jason Cox
Q: When did you start working toward the Max Rums project?
Jason explains it began about two years ago after he sold his restaurant and took a trip to Veracruz to learn about local cane spirits, which sparked a broader plan to bring multiple regional producers into a cohesive line.
