  • Informative content

I appreciate this podcast for keeping up with the big federal legal stories in Canada. Our community has lost its local newspaper and local am news radio. Even though I am in BC, I appreciate the local NS cases, as well, because learning about the procedure and complications is interesting and similar to here. I like your point of view on the cases.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dispersing the Fog -Ep 32 - New Evidence in Sullivan Children Case, Bail Reform Politics, Death of Robert Dziekanski with Guest Former CBC Journalist Curt Petrovich
Q: What drew Curt Petrovich to cover the Dziekanski case and what stands out about the official narrative?
Curt explains he was assigned to cover the event as it unfolded, and he emphasizes how the official narrative, including police coverage, evolved under scrutiny; he highlights the video evidence and how it shaped public perception versus the later inquiries and legal outcomes.
Dispersing the Fog - Ep 23 - Prof. Wayne MacKay on Police Review, Forrest Ban, Gov't Transparency
Q: Why are transparency and accountability so central to policing debates in Nova Scotia?
MacKay explains that without clear, accessible information and meaningful public input, accountability remains symbolic; reforms must be grounded in constitutional rights and practical processes that the public can understand and trust.
Dispersing the Fog - Ep 18 - Order of Canada to MCC Chair, Special Guest Ret'd Dep Comm Curt Allen
Q: What governance model do you think would improve policing efficiency in Canada?
A governance model where local boards act as the employers, setting policy and expectations while providing clear accountability, could enable more agile and transparent policing across provinces and address the fragmentation seen in contract policing.
Dispersing the Fog - Ep 27 - Part 2 The Swiss Air Crash Controversy, With Forensics Expert Tom Juby
Q: Why was passenger profiling stopped so early in the investigation and how did that affect the case?
Profiling was halted by orders, seemingly to limit inquiry into who was on the plane and their motives, which the interview frames as a deliberate move to avoid criminal scrutiny and keep the inquiry within an official accident narrative.
Dispersing the Fog - Ep 27 - Part 2 The Swiss Air Crash Controversy, With Forensics Expert Tom Juby
Q: Tom, think of this now. It seems like there's a US angle to this. Who would want to cover that up and not want to investigate it?
The discussion suggests a perception of external pressure and possible interference from allied agencies, with testimony indicating the FBI's involvement and a sense that investigations were constrained or redirected by higher authorities, leading to a belief that truth was being obscured rather than fully pursued.
