Hosted by Mike Cosper, this podcast takes you inside the story of Mars Hill Church in Seattle – from its founding as part of one of the largest church planting movements in American history to its very public dissolution—and the aftermath that followed. You’ll hear from people who lived this story, experiencing the triumphs and losses of Mars Hill, knowing it as both an amazing, life-transforming work of God and as a dangerous, abusive environment. The issues that plague Mars Hill and its founder, Mark Driscoll — dangers like money, celebrity, youth, scandal, and power—aren’t unique, and only by looking closely at what happened in Seattle will we be able to see ourselves.

They tell an interesting story and land in very weird areas on the issues they are addressing for really weird reasons. Christianity Today rarely holds to biblically Christian positions on social issues. Regularly adopt socially accepted positions which is habitually disappointing.
I have followed MD for many years and hated to see his failure. This deep look into this slow deteriorating process will hopefully help other church leaders to avoid this situation. Very well done!
This is an important cautionary tale told exceptionally well, albeit imperfectly.
As long as Christian organizations, structures, and groups keep sweeping the terrible actions of leaders under the rug and not holding them accountable, people will continue to keep getting hurt. And it’s human nature for people to hurt each other, however, we do a huge disservice to Christians and the world by not sharing these stories. This is the transparency and accountability that the church needs.
Such a great deep dive of the human fallout of pride and ego. Very neutral prospective!
