How can our society effectively support transgender individuals and also protect vulnerable adolescents who feel social pressure to make irreversible changes to their bodies? Blanket bans on medical interventions are certainly not the answer, and neither is rushing treatment and refusing to discuss potential issues. This podcast contributes to the nuanced dialogue we sorely need.
It's clear the reporter went into this podcast with the same trans-skeptic stance the NYT has increasingly bolstered over the past decade. If you're interested in the latest and best biology and psychology regarding gender identity you won't find it here. Ironically, many reviewers here seem to think this show is supportive of trans identities. I think they must not have listened very carefully.
For the vast majority of us who are bewildered about this, but would like to understand kindly, this is a brilliant Podcast. It does not feature the angry, confrontational language that stifles this debate while asking hard questions. I still don’t know who is “right”, but I understand better how we got here.
And a fad that nobody will remember in 20 years.
