  • Too much inane banter

The news and commentary is great, the endless banter gets old really fast. I just skip the first 8 minutes. Guys, you are smart (no doubt), but you are not funny or cool, and I am not your friend. I want news and value your commentary, not the rest. I am not the only one. Read your reviews.

  • Soothing

I often listen to this podcast when I’m trying to fall asleep, and it does the trick every time. Except for the episodes recorded in front of an audience. Those get pretty raucous! Overall, though, JD and Ed have a pleasant rapport that makes for a palatable program.

  • Disrespectful to our Pontiff

To imply that people use Pope Francis’ ideas out of fear…. So disrespectful to imply that so soon after his death. Had it occurred to you that his ideas were well-liked, or would that notion only ever apply to popes you approve of? You could just say you don’t like him. Be honest: that’s what’s going on. You don’t have to neg on the legacy of a great man, a great pastor, and, yes, a great theologian. That implication is calumny. You don’t have to go there. I don’t listen as much as I used to, bu... more

  • What is this?

Came to listen to informed news and smart commentary, what I got was 20 minutes of mindless banter about Halloween candy.

  • An early reader…

I’ve just started following your podcast and writings. Though I’m not a fan of a lot of personal bloviating before getting to the news I decided to give you guys an honest and charitable try. I’ve read and listened faithfully for several months now before deciding to jump in with my credit card….i do believe in and support Catholics putting everything on the line for Christ the King. However I am sad to say that the recent comments/support of the ridiculous anime art of the Catholic pilgrim co... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 253: Live from Chicago!
Q: What are the top three things the new apostolic nuncio has on his plate, day one?
The panel discusses establishing a dynamic between the Vatican and the US bishops, handling diplomacy with the US government, and strengthening the nuncio's role as intermediary between Rome and the United States bishops, with emphasis on pastoral diplomacy and effective communication.
Ep. 232: Definitions, and a disposition toward the miraculous
Q: Why does the Roman Pontiff require a petitioner to name a particular intended spouse in order to request the dissolution of a natural marriage?
The Church requires this to ensure there is a grave cause for the dissolution, as merely seeking a privilege without valid reason would not be aligned with canonical law.
Ep. 231: A canonical mailbag episode!
Q: Can a trans man validly marry a trans woman?
It depends on whether both parties are capable of engaging in acts per se apt for the generation of children at the time of attempted consent; if either is not capable due to surgical changes, the marriage would be invalid.
Ep. 231: A canonical mailbag episode!
Q: Why does the church say that canonical form is necessary?
Canonical form is necessary to ensure that marital consent is fully and publicly acknowledged, preventing individuals from later denying they exchanged consent, which was a historical issue.
Ep. 221: Pope Leo XIV, in Peru
Q: What made Monsignor Robert really mad?
Corruption made him angry, particularly about government officials not being transparent and stealing from the poor.
