  • Pretty good but…

I’ve listened to all the episodes and quite enjoyed them except I had to stop listening to the Wizard of Oz episode (listened to last because I’ve heard a lot about it already) when the speaker mentioned Sidney Luft writing (years after Judy had passed) about how the little people actors playing the munchkins treated Judy Garland. Luft claimed they groped her, however many Oz historians have debunked this. Judy herself recorded tapes mentioning the people who did sexually assault her and she nev... more

  • Great Concept; Poor Execution

Any aficionado of Hollywood would love to know tales behind classics and hits. No one wants a monotone reading of facts, which is what this feels like.

Hit us with sound clips, interviews both recorded and real-time, or at least some music! Super disappointed…

  • I am listening to The Making of The Wizard of Oz. The narrator does not pronounce Bert Lahr correctly.. She repeatedly say: Late (rhymes with care). Didn't anyone catch this? I have never, ever heard his name mispronounced like this.

  • Like an audio documentary of old Hollywood films

I was immediately hooked from the first episode. I binged 7 episodes in 1 and half days. Love the legit research she does, and it makes it all work. The episodes may be slightly long, but I LOVE that I get it all in one episode. It’s an extraordinary podcast and one of my new favorites. Keep up the good hard work.

  • Love the Insight!

Always happy to get any deep dives of Old Hollywood film!

I learn something new with each episode and I also really like the structure of them:

    Background of the key players

    How the film was shot

How the film was initially received

    The film’s legacy today

I wouldn’t mind discussions at the end of episodes with a guest like in the East of Eden ep, the longer the better in my book!

  • You Must Remember This?

How is this different? “The pictures got small” is also an offshoot podcast of Karina Longworth’s. I don’t see the point in making this if you’re not going to make it your own at all. If you can’t think of your own spin on this subject then you simply don’t have to make a podcast!

  • Needs tweaking

The background music is unnecessary and annoying. I almost had to stop listening because of it. The narrator is a little monotone. I think if she had a cohost it could improve the tone and feel of podcast. It would possibly make it less stilted.

Details were interesting but I don’t think I could continue to listen in unless something changes. It seems this is a new podcast so I bet reworking is part of learning curve.
