  • Great to sleep to

I honestly don’t care pretty much at all about pens, but that makes this podcast perfect to fall asleep to. They have a massive back catalogue and their banter is a perfect balance between lightly funny but nothing too crazy, important, or exciting.

  • Real Talk

Long time listener, first time reviewer. I very seldomly leave reviews, but wanted to thank you both for your transparency and vulnerability on ep. 640. The world needs more of this, especially from men. I have so many other thoughts on the topic (I’ve typed and deleted half a dozen already) but suffice it to say, thanks for letting us in. Love you guys.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

718: A Guy With A Typewriter Walks Into A Bar
Q: Derek, welcome. Number one, what's your intro of choice? Who are you? Where are you from?
Derek explains his handle and how he got started, noting his initial entry into journaling, meeting his college roommate who encouraged collecting, and how he eventually built a presence online with a focus on Stationery Internet content.
716: Good Times
Q: How is the DesignPhil universe organized and how do brands relate to the umbrella company?
April describes DesignPhil as an umbrella over multiple brands with autonomous teams for each brand. The overseas division supports US markets, and there are distinct but interconnected brands like Travelers, Plotter, Midori, and MD Product, each with its own paper and product strategies.
716: Good Times
Q: How long have you worked at DesignPhil America and what's your main role?
April explains she joined DesignPhil America in 2021 and has progressed from marketing specialist to marketing manager, and now serves as the brand communication manager, overseeing multiple brands and broader production and project management duties.
711: Super Inky Guy
Q: What is the best pocket pen under strict no-thread constraints?
The hosts discuss several options, ultimately leaning toward the Prera as a practical balance of size and reliability, while noting newer non-threaded designs may not always meet expectations; the choice depends on what you value in portability and feel.
705: Montblanc Is Buying Up All the RAM
Q: Do you think Lamy's Jetstream Inside stock upgrade will move into more products, and what premium do you expect?
Given the strong demand for Jetstream ink and the popularity of Lamy's Safari line, it's likely they will expand the Jetstream Inside concept; however, pricing will depend on components and distribution, with a premium likely for the upgraded internals but not an unreasonable one if they maintain compatibility across lines.
