  • If you love nuanced views

There are few tech writers I really admire. Jason, Om and Gruber. You want nuanced views to understand the trends or decisions of tech industry. This is where Upgrade is really good. Clearly you can see the difference between a YouTuber’s take versus a take of veteran.

  • Pretty bad most of the time

I used to like this podcast, but not much anymore. Jason is a reasonably smart guy, but he sure is prickly and thin-skinned. He loves to talk about folks who don’t like him and, more importantly, question him, and how he enjoys blocking them (no one cares). Myke is insufferable. Jason has the background and credibility to say what he does about Apple and tech. Myke? Who is this guy? He usually just parrots other options he’s read (and includes the word “Right?” constantly, which shows he doesn’... more

  • Forgot the point of the internet

While i’m all for calling out Apple over hypocritical practices, the hosts’ eagerness to ban Grok over its admittedly disgusting content is reprehensible. Have your political views overshadowed your interest in keeping the Internet open? By your logic, every social media network should be shut down, along with much of the rest of the web. You’re on the UK’s side on this? Because they’re banning the things you don’t like? Do you think you and the rest of us will end up in a better place if all go... more

  • Just shut down

Jason and Myke are just now humiliating themselves because they have nothing interesting to share. First they had two short 30 seconds ads in 2010s now have more of them and much longer ads, back then they just had one show behind their paywall, now they have many shows and they have overtime and they want you to pay for that, they want you buy their overpriced merch, this business is not going to last much longer. Just stop wasting everyone's time and accept that you don't have anything intelle... more

  • Way better Apple shows out there.

These guys are pretentious and out of touch, with poor takes. Especially the American, the Brit is slightly more tolerable. Every time I give them another try, I regret it by the end of the first episode. Listen to ATP or something else.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

610: We Hear You're Good at Computers
Q: Could the naming changes imply a broader shift in Apple's product strategy?
The hosts agree that while branding terms like Pro have specific historical meanings for Apple's lineup, the company is likely to keep high-end models for PCs separate and use branding like Studio or Ultra selectively, focusing on practical distinctions rather than marketing buzz.
608: Pop and Lock
Q: What was your experience like on Jeopardy, and how did you feel after competing against a record-breaking opponent?
Jason described feeling happy with his and Jordan's performance, believing they gave their best and made Jamie Ding sweat, even though he didn't win.
608: Pop and Lock
Q: What would you choose as your Mastermind specialist subject?
Jason would choose Apple, focusing on a specific Apple-related timeframe to maximize mastery, reflecting his professional focus and expertise.
606: Photogenic Lemon
Q: Should the MacBook Neo be upgraded yearly as part of a spring iPhone event with the latest chip and new colors?
They think yearly updates would be nice but may not align with Apple's event cadence; updates might come via separate announcements or press releases rather than a full event.
604: The Shifting Sands of Liquid Glass
Q: What are your thoughts on the Olympic athletes using old wired iPhone EarPods?
It feels like an indictment against Apple, that people are still using a technology that they launched in 2012 instead of newer products.
