  • Grateful to be Along for the Ride

You the man Ev! Listening to your pod has helped me start to enjoy golf again and not put so much pressure on myself. When I find myself getting in a funk I try to remind myself how much of a pleasure it is to get to play golf and it snaps me out of it and allows me to focus on enjoying the sport I love!

  • Must listen for golf addicts

I can’t say enough great things about this podcast. Ev and Cerm make it such a fun and easy listen and - unlike any other golf podcast - they make the show about the listener. Each episode gets me more and more excited about my next round and elevating my game to the lowest handicap possible. Highly recommend!

  • Thanks for what you bring to golf

So, today I broke par for the first time. I’ve had a few chances and I choked a couple of them away in pretty miserable fashion. Today was different. I was 2 under headed to 16 and hit a couple bad shots and then 3 putted from 25 feet for a double bogey 5. I could feel my body deflate for a second. But today something changed. I embraced the challenge. I made it fun for myself. I treated it like 3rd and 9 or having the ball down 2 with 20 seconds left in basketball. Hit 2 great shots and birdied... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#473: The Most Underrated Way to Improve Your Golf Game (Hint: Probably the last thing you want to do)
Q: What does your practice look like when you're preparing to return to amateur competition?
Jay emphasizes sticking to core fundamentals (grip, setup, posture) and using deliberate alignment drills to build confidence, while balancing life responsibilities.
#468: Why the World’s Best Golf Courses Feel Different with Architect Bill Coore (Part 2)
Q: What makes a course really stand out on a gifted site, given budget and real estate constraints?
The site and nature should guide the design; look for interesting natural situations, avoid over-altering; the challenge is to use the land's inherent character to create compelling golf rather than forcing a big budget or heavy construction.
#468: Why the World’s Best Golf Courses Feel Different with Architect Bill Coore (Part 2)
Q: But how would you define a good golf hole? Is it optionality, aesthetics, or playability?
A good golf hole excites you to play, invites different shots, may be mysterious, and should reward thoughtful, not just pure power, with a balance between playability, aesthetics, and the site's opportunities.
#458: Going from an 8 to a 1 Without Changing Your Swing (Replay Rate - Coaching Calls)
Q: What was the pivotal shift in your mindset that changed your results?
Moving from chasing a specific score to leveraging problem-solving strengths on the course, simplifying the game, and trusting the process rather than forcing outcomes.
#457: There's No Such Thing as Consistency with Dr. Bhrett McCabe (How to Break Free from Suckville 2.0)
Q: What is the biggest takeaway for listeners who struggle with consistency and performance under pressure?
Accept that consistency in golf is a myth; instead, focus on foundations, awareness of your strengths, and a repeatable pre-round routine. Embrace the possibility of being wrong or imperfect, reframe pressure as an opportunity, and build a mental framework that reinforces belief in your own abilities rather than chasing perfect swings.
