  • Simply the best

Easily the best podcast out there about writing. Their backlog of episodes is amazing. The hosts are super likable and pull some great conversation out of their guests. I listen to a number of writing podcasts, but this one clears all of them. This show is wildly underrated. I almost never see it recommended, but I am recommending it to you right now!

Ep. 266 - Stephen Fishbach on moving from Survivor to Pushcart Prize Winner
Q: How did your MFA and the short story Two Sharks influence your path to the Pushcart Prize?
The MFA provided a framework to experiment and polish, and Two Sharks gave me access to a unique perspective—the contestants' view—which helped me craft a story that resonated and eventually won the prize.
Ep. 266 - Stephen Fishbach on moving from Survivor to Pushcart Prize Winner
Q: What made you decide to pursue writing more seriously after Survivor?
A pivotal stormy night in Cambodia and the realization that if I could endure the hardship of the game, I could endure and commit to writing a book, which started the shift from TV work to fiction.
Ep. 260 - Deborah Masson on the validation of literary awards
Q: Did you always want to be a writer?
Yes, Deborah describes writing from childhood and pursuing it through college and courses, which helped her discover crime writing and eventually publish her debut.
Ep. 261 - Katalina Watt on moving from short stories to bestselling novels
Q: What advice would you give about changing agents mid-career?
Changing agents is common; it's a strategic business decision. Find a partner who brings complementary skills, aligns on career trajectory, and supports long-term goals rather than clinging to the first agent, especially when moving into new genres.
Ep. 261 - Katalina Watt on moving from short stories to bestselling novels
Q: What role has Creative Scotland played in your career?
Creative Scotland provided funding pathways and networking opportunities, helping with development, festival engagement, and the possibility of ongoing support for individual artists, which can be transformative for writers from underrepresented backgrounds.
