Artist archivist James Rodriguez takes you inside the music. Unpackaging the stories behind the songs with the creatives and studio minds who helped bring them to life. Along the way, he gives flowers to the tracks that may not have been the biggest hits from the icons you love, but still deserve their moment in the spotlight. Because every song has a story...and James is here to share it.

  • Love the content, hot mess to listen to

“And I’ll tell you about that in a second!” Every thirty seconds gets very infuriating to listen to. Constant teasing, never following up, chopping and changing, horribly misplaced promos partway through sentences. Really a shame because the actual content is so interesting and well researched. Just a nightmare to listen to!

Flowers for We Are Smug with Darren Hayes
Q: Why did the album We Are Smug have such a guerrilla-style release and lack conventional promotion?
The host explains it as a deliberate artistic choice to create a space where Darren and Robert could experiment freely, without the constraints of radio singles dictating the project's direction.
No Strings Fridays -*NSYNC - Space Cowboy Feat. Left Eye
Q: So let me ask you this then, was Space Cowboy the last song that you put to bed for the album that you worked on?
No, it was one of the first songs completed for the album, and its successful integration helped validate NSYNC's ability to handle complex productions under tight timelines.
No Strings Fridays - *NSYNC RCA preproduction of No Strings Attached with Vince DeGiorgio
Q: What is a word you would use to describe each of the five NSYNC members individually?
I'd say Joey was 'Superman' for his energy and presence, Lance was 'Brave' for his authenticity, JC showed leadership and vocal versatility, Chris was the 'Anchor' with a strong upper register, and Justin was the de facto lead whose delivery set the tone for the group.
No Strings Fridays - *NSYNC from RCA to JIVE - Alex Greggs
Q: How did the transition from remixes to original NSYNC productions happen?
Alex explains that the moment where discussions with JC and the team opened up to write original material alongside remix work, combined with being positioned in-house at Wegg and then moving to Jive, created the path for Space Cowboy and the No Strings Attached era to take shape.
