  • The show I didn’t know was missing in my life.

I’m not in or from Edmonton so I didn’t even know about the show until just before it launched as a podcast. Now this has become a regular listen for me. I sometimes laugh so hard that I am in tears! Definitely worth a listen, even if you aren’t an Oilers or Elks fan.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Nielson Show - June 3rd, 2026 - Hour 3
Q: What did you uncover about UFAs and potential trades for the Oilers?
The panel discussed focusing on within-organization moves, potential asset moves like Matt Savoie, and the possibility of using offer sheets or trading small forwards; it was emphasized that any deal must balance upside with cost and long-term roster construction.
The Nielson Show - July 6th, 2026 - Hour 3
Q: What's the next strongest position on the Oilers besides center?
The panel argued it could be right wing or the blue line, depending on lineup and coaching, with some emphasis on goaltending as a pivotal factor.
The Nielson Show - July 7th, 2026 - Hour 3
Q: What do you think about the league-wide trend of young players getting paid earlier, and how does that affect teams like Philadelphia and Montreal?
The discussion centered on the paradigm shift toward granting early big contracts to young players, which changes how teams plan future drafts and asset management, and how matchups in cap space force difficult trade and development decisions.
The Nielson Show - July 7th, 2026 - Hour 3
Q: How do you view the Ducks' approach to offer sheets and signings, especially in relation to Leo Carlsson's contract?
Wyshynski noted this was a critical year for Anaheim, emphasizing that the team must decide whether to match a high signing bonus-heavy offer sheet or risk losing a top prospect, which could dramatically alter the franchise's trajectory and cap structure.
The Nielson Show - July 7th, 2026 - Hour 3
Q: What was your assessment of the Oilers' off-season moves and cap strategy after the first wave of free agency?
Wyshynski explained that signing Devin Levi and the goaltending adjustments were part of a broader strategy to create cap flexibility, while acknowledging how the protection of core players and the Nurse trade implications shaped the picture for Edmonton going into the season.
