  • Informative, but America Centric

As far as I’m aware, this podcast is unique in its category. Unfortunately, despite probably having a global audience, it tends toward North American centrism, in both the news and advertisements they select. In particular, it isn’t always clear whether an advertiser only serves North American customers, and news items that have no relevance to a global audience are usually presented as if everyone in the audience lives in the US. It’s otherwise a good podcast.

  • AI Sub?

Wow. Today’s listening to today’s episode was brutal. I do not ever want AI reading the news to me. Erica’s broadcast is typically upbeat and personable. If this continues, I’ll find a new new source.

  • Sad about changes

I have been listening to this show for many years. So refreshing to find a news channel that was actually fair and gave a report on both sides of whatever argument. However in the last 2years there has been a notable shift to the left. I am an independent- which is why I liked this show because I just want to hear the facts not political opinions. But now I can hear/feel the negative tones and slants towards our current administration- not sure what happened in your content writing- but I would ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Special Edition: Big Benefits of Small Talk– Is it a Lost Art?
Q: What are the benefits of, let's say, casual conversation?
Casual conversation builds relationships, demonstrates empathy, and adds depth to social connections; the more we engage, the deeper and broader our relationships can become.
Special Edition: Big Benefits of Small Talk– Is it a Lost Art?
Q: So your research found that we're speaking to each other less, like literally saying fewer words every day, right? So can you tell us how you discovered this and then a little bit more about the actual data?
The discovery came from an accident while compiling a larger dataset on talkativeness; the newer data showed a drop in words spoken per day compared to earlier studies, about 338 words per day less on average.
Special Edition: 'Molly' as Medicine? Psychedelics, PTSD & One Veteran's Journey
Q: What did the five-year follow-up reveal about the MDMA-assisted therapy compared to standard therapy?
MDMA-assisted therapy showed significantly better outcomes than standard therapy, with durable results observed in follow-ups, suggesting that this approach can address trauma in a lasting way for some patients.
Special Edition: Hantavirus Explained – What's the Risk?
Q: What should listeners do in daily life to respond to this outbreak?
Listeners should not alter travel plans or take drastic actions, but should prioritize spreading accurate information, triple-check sources, and rely on reputable public health updates rather than rumors, while staying informed through official channels like WHO, CDC, and local health departments.
Special Edition: Hantavirus Explained – What's the Risk?
Q: How do we compare hantavirus to other diseases like Ebola in terms of transmission and severity?
Hantavirus is overall highly deadly with a 30-40% mortality rate in this strain, but unlike Ebola it does not spread as easily or asymptomatically except in specific circumstances, so precautions focus on monitoring and containment rather than broad community transmission; Ebola was used as a comparative example to discuss response and visibility of public health efforts.
