Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Actions before Words
Q: First of all, Martha, if we could talk about how did you get involved in Parasports?
Martha explains she was inspired by watching people in rehabilitation centers and hospital settings, which sparked questions and curiosity about how to get involved in the sports.
Moving Goalposts
Q: Why has Parabob not yet been included in the Paralympic Games, and what is the main barrier?
The main barrier is the number of nations competing and the ongoing process with the IPC, where incremental requirements and funding issues lead to shifting goalposts, making inclusion slower despite existing infrastructure and combined world championship formats being possible
Moving Goalposts
Q: Cynthia, can you start off by talking about para bobsleigh for people who may not know much about it?
Para bob is a single-seat version of bobsleigh with athletes seated in modified sleds, launched from a launcher to ensure equal footing, and it's a time-trial sport where the fastest run wins; there are no classifications yet and it's still relatively young but expanding through its own circuit.
O Canada
Q: Can you first start by telling us a little bit about the forum that you recently attended?
The forum was the fourth annual Women in Sport Conference hosted with Aruba, drawing about 29 women from 28 countries for three and a half days of leadership development, with a focus on building a network, addressing barriers, and advancing women in leadership roles.
Para Tough Mudder
Q: What is a Para Tough Mudder and how is it adapting the event for para athletes?
It's an obstacle course race adapted with modified rules and obstacles; athletes can have a support team and participate as a group, with as many obstacles as possible they can handle, emphasizing inclusion and teamwork.
