  • Tough listening experience

Really wish this podcast host wouldn’t insert himself so deeply into the conversation and make every response about him. If you’re going to have a guest on who has extremely valuable knowledge to share, don’t make the conversation centred around your own practice and opinions. I couldn’t even make it through five minutes of an episode with a guest that I really wanted to listen to because I felt like I was only learning about the host.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

175 - Art Comes From the Soul: Analog, AI, and Authentic Portraits
Q: How do you approach balancing film and digital in portrait work to maintain timelessness?
Film provides a grounded sense of energy and personality, while digital offers flexibility; using both allows you to capture energy and texture with film and then refine or expand capabilities digitally, aiming for a look that remains timeless rather than overly polished.
175 - Art Comes From the Soul: Analog, AI, and Authentic Portraits
Q: What is the best photographic advice you've ever received and how has it shaped your work?
Shoot what you love and focus on what you can sustain over time; grounding yourself in passion helps you persevere through difficult shoots and keeps your work authentic, especially when navigating celebrity interactions.
172 - The Power of Black & White: Your Photo Archive Through the Monochrome Lens
Q: Worst advice you've had regarding photography or running a business?
The idea of quitting your day job to become a full-time photographer too early, based on a few good gigs, is poor guidance that can lead to unsustainable paths.
171 - Why Imperfection Is Becoming the Most Powerful Style in Photography
Q: What guidance would you offer to photographers feeling overwhelmed by rapid industry change?
Focus on building a consistent personal style, cultivate relationships and trust with clients and planners, and selectively engage with marketing while not losing sight of what makes your work uniquely yours.
171 - Why Imperfection Is Becoming the Most Powerful Style in Photography
Q: How has the transition from film to digital and the rise of editing software changed the photographer's day-to-day workflow?
It dramatically increased speed and volume of work, but also shifted emphasis toward efficient culling, smart editing, and clear communication with clients about what is feasible or ethical in post-processing.
