  • Tough listening experience

Really wish this podcast host wouldn’t insert himself so deeply into the conversation and make every response about him. If you’re going to have a guest on who has extremely valuable knowledge to share, don’t make the conversation centred around your own practice and opinions. I couldn’t even make it through five minutes of an episode with a guest that I really wanted to listen to because I felt like I was only learning about the host.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

171 - Why Imperfection Is Becoming the Most Powerful Style in Photography
Q: What guidance would you offer to photographers feeling overwhelmed by rapid industry change?
Focus on building a consistent personal style, cultivate relationships and trust with clients and planners, and selectively engage with marketing while not losing sight of what makes your work uniquely yours.
171 - Why Imperfection Is Becoming the Most Powerful Style in Photography
Q: How has the transition from film to digital and the rise of editing software changed the photographer's day-to-day workflow?
It dramatically increased speed and volume of work, but also shifted emphasis toward efficient culling, smart editing, and clear communication with clients about what is feasible or ethical in post-processing.
170 - From the Midwest to NYC With No Degree: A Self-Taught Photographer's Journey
Q: What was the hardest thing to adjust to creatively or personally when you moved from the Midwest to New York?
Realizing how many exceptional photographers were already established there, which pushed me to double down on my own vision and remain true to my Midwestern roots while expanding technically.
168 - Photographing What's Real: Film, Trust, and Truth
Q: What is your advice for creating that personal connection with your subjects or your clients?
Start by building trust through conversation, shared interests, and being present; the photography comes after you've established a human connection, so the couple feels comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera.
164 - Beyond Hot Takes: Rethinking Dialogue and Discourse in the Photo Industry
Q: What would you tell a young photographer starting out today?
Focus on editing and curating your own work first, understand what you truly want to say, and accept that there isn't a single linear path to success—embrace different pathways and keep practicing to build consistency.
