I love this podcast. As a cinephile and female filmmaker I massively enjoy listening to Rachel and Ariel go into delicious depth about both the filmmakers and films covered - it’s all so fascinating and they are excellent, smart, fun hosts. My only problem is that I cannot keep up with the films and am chomping at the bit to watch them just so I can hear the podcast! So good.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

More Deadly: The Director’s Cut with Natalie Erika James of ‘Saccharine’
Q: Talk about the use of the hungry ghost and convex mirrors as storytelling devices. Why these choices?
Natalie discusses the hungry ghost as a symbolic parallel to insatiable hunger and emotional needs, and convex mirrors to visualize body dysmorphia and how perception can distort when under pressure, both reinforcing the film's themes.
More Deadly: The Director’s Cut with Natalie Erika James of ‘Saccharine’
Q: How did you, when you were kind of exploring this, decide what parts of it you wanted to narrow in on and what you wanted to say about it?
Natalie explains that the core was emotional truth and using horror to externalize internal fears around eating disorders, fat bias, and diet culture, with the film serving as a platform to explore those personal experiences and their broader cultural implications.
More Deadly: The Director’s Cut with Donna Davies & Alexandra Heller-Nicholas of ‘1000 Women in Horror’
Q: How did you approach assembling voices for the documentary to balance representation with industry realities?
They aimed to include a wide network of women working in various roles behind the camera, supplemented by male allies, to show the collaborative nature of filmmaking and to illustrate practical industry dynamics.
More Deadly: The Director’s Cut with Grace Glowicki of ‘Dead Lover’
Q: What influenced the film's direction and the decision to push boundaries with dialogue?
Grace explains the lines were a collaborative product of long development with her husband Ben, who has a knack for wordplay and rhymes, and that the humor reflects a balance between wild, far-out ideas and accessible writing.
The More Deadly Podcast Episode 150: ‘Wuthering Heights’
Q: What did you think of Wuthering Heights 2026 in a spoiler-free sense?
It's visually striking and evocative, with a strong directorial vision, but its adherence to or departure from the book provokes mixed reactions, particularly around Heathcliff's portrayal and the film's gothic atmosphere.
