  • Insightful and thought provoking.

Listened to the recent episode about blackbird labs and immediately downloaded the app. As a chef, introduced to the meez app by a colleague, the accompanying podcast is great for hearing how the concepts have affected so many. Very entertaining.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is Your Restaurant Tech Stack Making You Worse? Plus AI Forecasting, Combi Oven Confessions, and the Nokia Phone Problem with Brianne Harvey
Q: What are the patterns you see in restaurants that scale well?
Successful scaling hinges on deliberate decision-making, setting realistic timelines for implementation, having weekly operational reviews, training calendars, and accountable teams that understand how to measure labor and food costs across multiple locations.
Is Your Restaurant Tech Stack Making You Worse? Plus AI Forecasting, Combi Oven Confessions, and the Nokia Phone Problem with Brianne Harvey
Q: How did your venture Restaurant Resource start, and what gap did you see in the market?
It started from years in the industry where I repeatedly had to Google across vendors and tools to understand who integrates with what; I wanted a free, comprehensive directory with peer reviews, not paywalled lists, to help operators find and compare vendors and tech.
Should Every Restaurant Have a $5 Beer? Plus the Industry Tipping Point, ADHD as a Superpower, Frequency always wins
Q: Keith, how do you think about pricing when it comes to your lower-end products and staying profitable while attracting customers?
Pricing is multifaceted and depends on each concept's location, costs, and customer base. The goal is to stay mindful of liquor costs, food components, and labor while using pricing and menu strategy to attract locals and visitors, with the market ultimately guiding what can be charged.
Tony Aiazzi on bootrapping, Over Easy Office, and bespoke chef knives. Plus Ai as the last mile and singing Chef David Burke's praise.
Q: Why did you choose to bootstrap rather than pursue VC funding, and how has that shaped your growth trajectory?
Momentum came from a customer-first, hands-on approach; we opted to grow organically, leveraging revenue to reinvest, which helped us build a sustainable business model and stay focused on what customers actually need.

Q: Can you introduce yourself and your background before we dive into the invoice processing topic?
I started in the restaurant world, moved through roles in kitchens and leadership, and then pivoted to build Shoebox as an invoice automation tool that eventually grew into a broader services-and-software ecosystem.
