  • More than a Profession

I have not listened to the majority of the podcast, but I just finished More than a Profession, and it was spectacular.

I believe anyone in leadership, desiring leadership, or anyone who is an armor-bearer and struggling under leadership, would benefit from listening to this.

  • Clear teaching on I&2 Timothy

Thank you pastors especially for your discussions on I Tim 2. This part of Scripture has been so confusing to me. Misinterpretating this passage has been a hinderance to the church and presenting the gospel.

Pastor Jim, I have always appreciated hear your teaching of Scripture and your thoughts on issues we face in society. I appreciate your heart for God, love for His people and drive for spreading the gospel.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Staying Healthy in Life and Ministry
Q: How should pastors and leaders prioritize their responsibility to their body for being healthy?
Pastors and leaders should view their bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit and take care of them, as this is part of the stewardship God expects. Engaging in physical health activities is seen not as selfishness but as essential for fulfilling their spiritual duties and responsibilities. Physical discipline should not be undervalued in the face of spiritual pursuits.
Finding Courage to Take Risks
Q: How do you find courage to take new risks and do new things in ministry?
Risk-taking requires an internalized courage, often tied to one's spiritual life and responding to the Holy Spirit's prompting rather than the comfort of complacency.
Dealing with Loss and Disappointment in Ministry
Q: Where do you see that conversation?
I think probably quantum mechanics and cosmology are the two big areas that are going to raise new questions.
Dealing with Loss and Disappointment in Ministry
Q: If I ask you as a scientist that also works as a pastor, do you worry at all that people are losing an interest in science or that are becoming suspicious of science?
It's possible we have. I think most of the science headlines I see now are either progress in space travel or are new discovery, changes the way we understand the universe.
When You're Ready to be a Lead Pastor
Q: What are some of the early mistakes that can happen during the transition into lead pastoring?
New pastors often rush to make changes without valuing the existing culture and relationships, which can undermine trust within the congregation.
