  • great motivation for health tech founders

Discovered this podcast after hearing Dr Somauroo on the Big Picture Medicine podcast. Loved his advice for healthcare entrepreneurs on finding problems in the hospital to tackle and how he got started fixing printers for his colleagues. As a former software engineer and indie hacker doc we’re hoping to build something worth interviewing sometime. Great interviews and guests!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#453: Why "can AI replace doctors?" is the wrong question. Shravan Nageswaran, Atman Labs
Q: What are the regulatory and benchmarking considerations for autonomous diagnosis?
Determinism, explainability, and safety are key; we aim to verify the system's interactions, ground decisions in a knowledge graph, and design real-world clinical studies to establish credible benchmarks.
#453: Why "can AI replace doctors?" is the wrong question. Shravan Nageswaran, Atman Labs
Q: How does your tech differ from traditional LLM approaches to diagnosis?
LLMs generate answers from prompts; our system constructs and navigates a dynamic decision graph, uses reinforcement learning to decide which questions to ask next, and grounds its reasoning in a world model to ensure safety and explainability.
#455: Is animal testing in drug development on its way out?
Q: What is the biggest bottleneck in getting a molecule from discovery to the clinic?
Time is the bottleneck; studies take time to run and report, so the focus is on starting studies faster and delivering data faster without sacrificing quality.
#454: Slow regulation is killing health tech innovation
Q: How do they view regulation as a system rather than a component issue, especially with AI/LLMs?
They emphasize assessing the entire architecture and risks of the system, rather than isolating LLMs, to determine appropriate testing, validation, and regulatory strategies.
#454: Slow regulation is killing health tech innovation
Q: What is the core problem Scarlet is solving for healthtech companies wanting to iterate?
Scarlet aims to replace the traditional, slow, paper-heavy regulatory path with a ground-up process designed for iterative software development, enabling safer, faster cycles from MVP to scale.
