A great podcast with clear, easy to follow advice. I’ve recommended it to so many people. Given so many doctors are leaving the NHS or medicine entirely, and at many different stages (F1s to experienced consultants), I wonder if you’d consider doing an episode with advice about your NHS pension if you leave the NHS well before retirement and are unlikely to return? Info like any steps to take in preparation; what salary will be counted if you leave with pension in different schemes; should you t... more

  • Brave, informative, relevant

As a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, this podcast covers extremely taboo topics that often are a mystery to most UK trained doctors. Great podcast!

  • Must know for doctors

This podcast has a wealth of information on everything possible related to money and finance for doctors, and also savings tips and information catered to junior doctors as well as consultants and GPs. I have learned a lot from this. Some episodes are very complex and hard to understand though, especially topics related to tax, pensions and investments. However overall it is a great podcast for doctors at any point in their career.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 317: March 25th Deadline: The Vote That Could Change NHS General Practice Forever
Q: If the government cannot adequately fund GP services via the NHS, could there be a plan to allow private services within NHS-funded premises?
The hosts and Katie discussed pragmatic considerations, noting policy constraints and the political sensitivity around non-GMS activities, while highlighting potential private service models as a contingency—though currently not approved.
Ep 317: March 25th Deadline: The Vote That Could Change NHS General Practice Forever
Q: With GP diversity (locums, partners, salaried GPs) and different needs, can a single contract message be effectively unified?
It was acknowledged as challenging, with dynamics shifting between salaried and contractor GPs, but there was emphasis on the need for governance and at-scale structures to manage this complexity.
Ep 317: March 25th Deadline: The Vote That Could Change NHS General Practice Forever
Q: But in light of likely higher inflation, what is the real terms uplift—could it end up being a loss in real terms?
The panel discussed that CPI vs. RPI matters, and while the uplift might look real on paper, rising inflation and other costs could erode its value; the real impact remains uncertain and contested.
Ep 316: Do you have a will?
Q: What is a will, and why should someone consider making one now?
A will is a legal document that directs who handles your affairs after you die, who inherits what, and it allows you to appoint executors and guardians, reducing stress for loved ones and ensuring your wishes are followed.
Ep 314: GP outsourcing and predictions for 2035
Q: Can you introduce yourself and explain why outsourcing makes sense for GP practices?
Valeed explains his background, discusses Vallour's on-call GP and pharmacy leadership model, and emphasizes keeping clinical responsibility in-house while shifting the administrative and pathology workflows to a dedicated, specialized team.
