Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Konstantine Paschalidis, Esq. @ixlegal - Dose of Dental Podcast #223 x Dr. Gallagher's Podcast
Q: What makes a term sheet useful, and what should it contain besides the core numbers?
A term sheet should cover compensation, restrictive covenants, location, and bonuses, but also benefits, education policy, malpractice insurance, termination rights, and potential liquidated damages. It serves as a roadmap to identify red flags before signing the formal agreement.
Dr. Anish Gupta (PART 2) @lyondentalimplants - Dose of Dental Podcast #222 x Dr. Gallagher's Podcast
Q: What would you tell yourself eight months ago about your career path and hospital privileges, and what should residents listening consider as they plan their trajectory?
The guest emphasizes securing hospital privileges earlier, evaluating the trade-offs between independence and hospital-based work, and being deliberate about the pace and path toward ownership or partnership rather than chasing salary alone.
John Button @j.buttons - Dose of Dental Podcast #220 x Dr. Gallagher's Podcast
Q: What inspired your focus on Noma and how did you get involved with WHO-level advocacy?
My interest in oral surgery and global health began during undergraduate exposure to dentistry's impact on confidence and function. I connected with Dr. Zainab Nasir and later joined externships that highlighted international health disparities. I collaborated with the Center for Integrative Global Health and eventually co-founded a research nonprofit with colleagues to unify researchers, leading to engagement with WHO and other international bodies. This culminated in presenting at a WHO-co-hosted conference and seeing Noma formally recognized by WHO as a neglected tropical disease in 2023.

Q: Can you walk us through your CBSE journey and how you balanced studying with externships?
The CBSE required a larger time commitment than typical dental exams, with performance closely tied to deliberate, extended study across multiple subjects. I started later than ideal, used UWorld as a core resource, supplemented with Sketchy Micro and Sketchy Farm, and positioned externships around the CBSE dates to maximize hands-on learning while preparing for the exam. I took the CBSE three times, adjusting timing and study approach each time, which ultimately helped me tailor my prep for subsequent attempts.
