Witches didn't exist, and yet thousands of people were executed for the crime of witchcraft. Why? The belief in magic and witchcraft has existed in every recorded human culture; this podcast looks at how people explained the inexplicable, turned random acts of nature into conscious acts of mortal or supernatural beings, and how desperate communities took revenge against the suspected perpetrators.... more

Slow but creepy cool
I love this podcast. This is my fifth time listening to the series. I learn something new every time and it’s a pleasure doing so.
I seem to have a reaction every time the RNC (US) pushes a Trump allegation. I hold on to my cream pie smashathon instead of building a pyre.
The April Fool’s episode kept my interest and confusion until the explanation. I hadn’t made the connection of the date.
This is a really good, conversational podcast on the history of witchcraft’s position and treatment in society. A few comical mispronunciations but nothing that prevents this being easy to listen to. Thoroughly researched and carefully presented, I enjoyed this a lot.
Conversational, but a thorough rather than popular history of witchcraft. Mostly based on primary sources as far as I can tell, and many sources treated with skepticism which denotes cross-checking. The circumstances behind witch scares - economic, sociological, political and even individually malicious are well explained.
Very interesting and informative and shows how sad and stupid religious superstition is.
