  • The star I never knew

As I was completely unaware that super Darren was doing all this on podcast whilst I signed up for a RHS LVL 2 in plant science at winterborne, this podcast is fantastic not just for keeping you updated in the latest updates in gardening but very entertaining and always has me laughing. I shall certainly be looking at him in a different light when I see him in our class room ! Keep up the amazing molly and Darren !!!

  • So Much Fun

I absolutely love the Happy Garden Podcast and never miss an episode. Mollie and Darren are so much fun to listen to. They cover some interesting topics. From a listener who is not a gardener I really enjoy the variety of topics, the way they are delivered and learn things.

It is impressive that in the two years the podcast has been going there has never been a week without an episode.

Thank you Mollie and Darren for all your hard work and dedication.

  • The Best Gardening Podcast and the Most Entertaining

    Hi Mollie and Darren

I thought I’d try your podcast after attending one of Darren’s “Tights” talks and now totally hooked!

If i had to choose I’d rather listen to your podcast than watch Gardener’s World.. so much more fun and I’ve learnt loads.

Please keep up the good work and may your podcasts keep getting longer!

    All the best

Celebrating 100 episodes of gardening and giggles!
Q: Hi Darren, could you help my daughter who is moving house take a cutting from an established apple tree, and is it possible this time of year?
Hardwood cuttings are usually recommended for apples; six cuttings around six inches long can be taken, with best chance if done in winter, but if attempted now, ensure careful preparation, keep watered, and expect a lower strike rate since the tree's age is a factor.
Louie Spence and his massive bougainvillea
Q: What happened with the roses and suckers in the question from Mark?
Darren explains that suckers originate from the base and should be removed; prune the rest later to manage wind rock and overall plant shape.

He confirms he has a lovely garden and enjoys walking around it, though he doesn't work in it himself, preferring others to tend it.
The terrible 2's!
Q: What is the best approach to pruning the Marino cherry tree?
Begin with general pruning to remove dead, diseased, damaged, or crossing branches, then open up congested areas and halve the remaining stems, making cuts above joints, and only perform major reductions in late winter to early spring before bud break.
